α-Iso-cubebene attenuates neointima formation by inhibiting HMGB1-induced monocyte to macrophage differentiation via suppressing ROS production
Int Immunopharmacol. 2022 Aug 5;111:109121. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2022.109121. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTα-Iso-cubebene (ICB) is a dibenzocyclooctadiene lignin contained in Schisandra chinensis, a medicinal herb used to improve cardiovascular symptoms. To investigate the mechanisms involved, the effects of ICB on cellular production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was determined using cultured human THP-1 cells. When THP-1 cells were stimulated with HMGB1, cellular concentration of ROS was increased in dose- and time-dependent manners. These increases were significantly attenuated in cells pretreated with NADPH oxida...

Palmatine attenuated dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis via promoting mitophagy-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome inactivation
Publication date: January 2019Source: Molecular Immunology, Volume 105Author(s): Chu-Tian Mai, Mei-Mei Wu, Chun-Li Wang, Zi-Ren Su, Yuan-Yuan Cheng, Xiao-Jun ZhangAbstractActivation of NLRP3 inflammasomes is crucial in the pathological process of Ulcerative colitis (UC), which could be negatively regulated by PINK1/Parkin-driven mitophagy. Palmatine is a herb derived isoquinoline alkaloid with potent anti-inflammatory and anti-bacteria activities. In present study, we evaluated the effect of palmatine on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced mice colitis and examined whether its effect is exerted by promoting mitophagy-medi...

Esculentoside A Attenuates Allergic Airway Inflammation via Activation of the Nrf-2 Pathway
Conclusions: This is the first study to illustrate that EsA acts as a novel Nrf-2 activator, which modulates the oxidative stress pathway to improve lung injury and ameliorate the development of airway inflammation.Int Arch Allergy Immunol 2015;167:280-290

Geniposide alleviates inflammation by suppressing MeCP2 in mice with carbon tetrachloride-induced acute liver injury and LPS-treated THP-1 cells.
In this study, GP significantly attenuated inflammation in acute liver injury (ALI) mice model and in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced THP-1 cells. It was demonstrated that GP obviously decreased the expression of Methyl-CpG binding protein 2 (MeCP2) in vivo and in vitro. Knockdown of MeCP2 with siRNA suppressed the expressions of IL-6 and TNF-α, while over-expression of MeCP2 had a proinflammatory effect on the expression of IL-6 and TNF-α in LPS-induced THP-1 cells. Mechanistically, it was indicated that GP had anti-inflammatory effects at least in part, through suppressing MeCP2. Interestingly, GP could attenuate expr...
