Guillain-Barr é syndrome in patients dying with COVID-19 in Italy: a retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Although the mechanism of GBS onset is still unclear in COVID-19, fatal cases may be more frequent than other virus-related GBS, so that strictly monitoring in high-risk patients could dramatically decrease the mortality of GBS.PMID:37712236 | DOI:10.4415/ANN_23_03_04

Fluoro-edenite non-neoplastic diseases in Biancavilla (Sicily, Italy): pleural plaques and/or pneumoconiosis?
CONCLUSIONS: Asbestosis-like features were substantiated in Biancavilla residents without known occupational exposure to asbestos. Further studies to estimate population respiratory health are required. Experimental studies on the fibrogenic potential of fluoro-edenite are needed.PMID:37712235 | DOI:10.4415/ANN_23_03_03

The impact of leisure-time physical activity and occupational physical activity on sickness absence. A prospective study among people with physically demanding jobs
CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate that LTPA and OPA are related to opposite SA outcomes. MVPA during leisure time and work interact in their effect on SA, whereas we found no interaction effect between LTPA and self-reported physically demanding tasks in determining SA.PMID:37713180 | DOI:10.5271/sjweh.4120

Tumoral and peritumoral vascularization of brain tumours: a study comparing an intraoperative ultrasensitive Doppler and a preoperative first-pass perfusion MRI
CONCLUSION: There was a good correlation between a tumor FMBV obtained by a USD intraoperatively and rCCBV on a preoperative MRI validating the reliability of USD for intraoperative analyses of tumor microvascularization in gliomas.PMID:37714376 | DOI:10.1016/j.neuchi.2023.101493

The effect of postoperative hepatic fibrosis factors on morbidity in mitral valve replacement surgery: A single center ten years' experience
CONCLUSION: The AST/ALT ratio, which has been shown to be a predictor of cardiovascular mortality in various studies, was not useful in predicting mortality and morbidity in our study. However, a high FIB-4 index, another hepatic fibrosis index, was found to be associated with increased perioperative bleeding, duration of mechanical ventilation, and cardiac intensive care unit stay, which are important criteria in the prediction of morbidity in cardiovascular surgery.PMID:37706385 | DOI:10.4103/aca.aca_55_22

Differences in diffusion tensor imaging parameters of brain white matter tracts between patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1 and type 2 - a retrospective single-centre study
CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate diffuse disintegration of white matter pathways in DM patients, especially in the DM1 group. The damage to all types of fibres (association, commissural, and projection) may explain the diversity of clinical symptoms, which were more severe in the DM1 group of patients than in the DM2 group.CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: DTI in patients with DM may help us to understand the neural mechanisms underlying brain involvement during the disease. In future, it may help to identify biomarkers for disease progression and treatment response.PMID:37706668 | DOI:10.5603/pjnns.95587
