Telehealth Interventions Within the Scope of Occupational Therapy Practice: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: There is evidence to support that occupational therapy interventions delivered via telehealth are similarly effective as those delivered face-to-face, especially for neurological and pain conditions. What This Article Adds: The findings include an updated synthesis of telehealth occupational therapy interventions provided separately and with interdisciplinary health care teams. They expand occupational therapy's scope of practice to include interventions provided across the lifespan for rehabilitation and habilitation needs and include effectiveness by conditions.PMID:36332197 | DOI:10.5014/ajot.2022.049417

A Multimodal Pain Management Strategy for Burn Patients
Pain resulting from burn injury has proven to be one of the most challenging issues affecting the safe care of burn patients, and there is wide consensus on the risk of morbidities related to under controlled pain or over-prescribed opioid therapy (Dever,  2017; James& Jowza,  2017; Morgan et al., 2017; Romanowski et al., 2020; Yang et al., 2013). Burn care includes serial bedside debridement and dressing changes, surgical excisions and grafting, and challenging sessions with physical and occupational therapy, all of which may evoke anticipatory pain (James& Jowza,  2017; Romanowski et al., 2020).

What do occupational therapists add to pain management/rehabilitation?
Coming from a small profession that has side-stepped (more or less) a conventional biomedical model, I’ve found my inclusion in pain management and rehabilitation is not always easily understood by other clinicians. It doesn’t help that occupational therapists practice in very diverse settings, and what we do may look superficially like handing out raised toilet seats, playing with kids, doing work-site assessments or hand therapy! Today I hope to remedy this a bit, and extend a challenge to clinicians from other professions to sum up what your profession adds in 25 words or less (the first sentence in this...

Nonpalmar Endoscopic versus Open Trigger Finger Release: Results from a Prospective Trial
Conclusions: Patients treated for trigger finger with a nonpalmar endoscopic release through an incision at the proximal digital crease demonstrate significantly better scarring in the early postoperative period compared to patients treated with the open surgical approach. Treatment for trigger finger with this technique is as effective as the standard open technique.

Epub 2022 Aug 27.ABSTRACTWith benefits on pain and pain-related outcomes and low-risk profile, there has been an emphasis on nonpharmacologic management of chronic pain. Physical therapy uses exercises, manual therapies, and electrotherapy. Exercises include aerobic, strengthening, and flexibility exercises. Aquatic exercises have similar efficacy to land-based exercises. Multidisciplinary care uses a biopsychosocial approach. All are effective for pain-related outcomes. Occupational therapy focuses on ergonomics, joint protection, orthoses, and assistive d...
