Influenza Vaccination Among Pregnant People Before and During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic
Obstet Gynecol. 2023 Sep 1;142(3):636-639. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005285. Epub 2023 Aug 3.ABSTRACTThere are limited data on influenza vaccination coverage among pregnant people in the United States during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Within the Vaccine Safety Datalink, we conducted a retrospective cohort study to examine influenza vaccination coverage during the 2016-2017 through the 2021-2022 influenza seasons among pregnant people aged 18-49 years. Adverse Events in Pregnant Patients Treated with Coronavirus Disease 2019 Therapeutics
CONCLUSIONS: This case series reports AEs of elevated serum alanine aminotransferase, maternal bradycardia, maternal hypothermia, non-reassuring fetal heart patterns, and emergent or unplanned cesarean sections following administration of several COVID-19 therapeutics. This study was not designed to definitely identify causation, and further study is needed to evaluate the causal role of these therapeutics in AEs affecting pregnant COVID-19 patients.PMID:37581858 | DOI:10.1007/s13181-023-00961-3

Post-COVID-19 Peripartum Cardiomyopathy: Experience from a Large Tertiary Referral Center
CONCLUSIONS: Residual endothelial damage due to COVID-19 disease, even if originally mild in presentation, could predispose pregnant patients to PPCM and should be considered as a risk factor when assessing patients with new onset symptoms of heart failure. Further research is needed to confirm this hypothesis and fully determine the underlying pathophysiology. These preliminary findings warrant a high index of suspicion for PPCM in COVID-19 recoverers.PMID:37574890

SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence in pregnant women during the first three COVID-19 waves in The Gambia
SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China [1]. SARS-CoV-2 was rapidly transmitted globally, disrupting structures and systems; and causing millions of deaths. Globally, there were 278.7M COVID-19 cases and 5.39M attributable deaths by December 2021 [2], 21 months after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic [3]. Nigeria reported the first case in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) on 28 January 2020 [4].
