Cephalometric comparison of Eastman standards among caucasians and saudi population in the Najran region
The objective of this study was to establish the cephalometric norms of normal and pleasant soft tissue profiles of adult Saudi living in the Najran region of Saudi Arabia and compare them with the Eastman standards derived from the Caucasian population. A total of 60 lateral cephalometric radiographs (30 males and 30 females) of Najran adults aged between 18-30 years with pleasing, acceptable, harmonious and well-balanced soft tissue profile and Class I molar relationship with no history of previous orthodontic treatment, no crowding or spacing, normal overjet and overbite were selected for the study. Descriptive analysis...

Root development differences between cleft-adjacent teeth on the cleft side in comparison to their analogs on the noncleft side in patients with nonsyndromic cleft lip and palate who received secondary alveolar bone grafting
CONCLUSIONS: Root development of cleft-adjacent central incisors and canines is slow in comparison with their noncleft analogs. Root development of these teeth accelerates following SABG.PMID:37698289 | DOI:10.2319/041923-286.1

Femoroacetabular impingement in adolescents
Radiologie (Heidelb). 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1007/s00117-023-01197-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFemoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) is caused by a repetitive mechanical conflict between the acetabulum and the proximal femur, occurring in flexion and internal rotation. In cam impingement, bony prominences of the femoral head-neck junction induce chondrolabral damage. The acetabular type of FAIS, termed pincer FAIS, may be either due to focal or global retroversion and/or acetabular overcoverage. Combinations of cam and pincer morphology are common. Pathological femoral torsion may aggravate or decrease the mechan...

Successes and challenges in extracting information from DICOM image databases for audit and research
Br J Radiol. 2023 Sep 12:20230104. doi: 10.1259/bjr.20230104. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn radiography, much valuable associated data (metadata) is generated during image acquisition. The current setup of picture archive and communication systems (PACS) can make extraction of this metadata difficult, especially as it is typically stored with the image. The aim of this work is to examine the current challenges in extracting image metadata and to discuss the potential benefits of using this rich information. This work focuses on breast screening, though the conclusions are applicable to other modalities. The data stored i...

Breed-specific evaluation of serum biochemical markers in canine hip dysplasia observed in a Tornjak dog population
Am J Vet Res. 2023 Sep 16:1-8. doi: 10.2460/ajvr.23.07.0170. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Canine hip dysplasia (CHD) is a global disease and an improved diagnostic approach to this orthopedic condition is needed, with an emphasis on inexpensive and minimally invasive techniques. This research aimed to determine the differentiating potential of selected biochemical markers in serum between healthy dogs and dogs with hip dysplasia in a breed-specific study that involved the Tornjak dog population.ANIMALS: 99 Tornjak dogs radiographically categorized (Federation Cynologique Internationale procedure and scoring sch...

Three-dimensional analysis of posttraumatic tibial shaft malunion and correction based on the healthy, contralateral leg
Oper Orthop Traumatol. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1007/s00064-023-00821-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Three-dimensional (3D) analysis and implementation with patient-specific cutting and repositioning blocks enables correction of complex tibial malunions. Correction can be planned using the contralateral side or a statistical model. Patient-specific 3D-printed cutting guide blocks enable a precise osteotomy and reduction guide blocks help to achieve anatomical reduction. Depending on the type and extent of correction, fibula osteotomy may need to be considered to achieve the desired reduction.CONTRAINDICATIONS: a) ...
