Molecular characterization and phylogenetic analysis of avian influenza H3N8 virus isolated from imported waterfowl in Malaysia
Trop Biomed. 2023 Jun 1;40(2):220-235. doi: 10.47665/tb.40.2.014.ABSTRACTWild aquatic birds are natural reservoirs of influenza A viruses and H3 subtype is one of the most prevalent subtypes in waterfowl. Two H3N8 viruses of low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) were isolated via egg inoculation technique from the fecal swab specimens from imported barnacle goose and paradise shelduck in Veterinary Research Institute Ipoh, Malaysia. The full length of eight gene segments of the two viruses were amplified and sequenced with specific primers. The sequences were molecularly characterized, and the sequence identity were assess...

Enhancing Prognostic Assessment for Influenza-Associated Pneumonia: An Examination of Contributing Risk Factors
CONCLUSIONS: The prognosis of influenza-associated pneumonia can be effectively predicted by assessing peripheral blood parameters, including lymphocyte count, albumin level, urinary markers, and the oxygenation index upon admission. Notably, the Composite Index LOAU, as a comprehensive amalgamation of these factors, holds promising potential to enhance prognostic precision and management outcomes in cases of influenza-associated pneumonia.PMID:37652408

Asymptomatic infection with clade 2.3.4.4b highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) in carnivore pets, Italy, April 2023
Euro Surveill. 2023 Aug;28(35):2300441. doi: 10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2023.28.35.2300441.ABSTRACTIn April 2023, an outbreak of clade 2.3.4.4b highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) viruses carrying the T271A mammalian adaptive mutation in the PB2 protein was detected in a backyard poultry farm in Italy. Five domestic dogs and one cat living on the premises had seroconverted in the absence of clinical signs. Virological and serological monitoring of individuals exposed to the virus proved the absence of human transmission, however, asymptomatic influenza A(H5N1) infections in mammalian pets may have important public health i...
