Racial Differences in Food Allergy Phenotype and Health Care Utilization among US Children
Conclusions FA phenotypes and health care utilization differ among children of different racial and/or ethnic backgrounds in the United States that put AA and Hispanic children at higher risks of adverse outcome than white children. These differences include coexistent atopic conditions, less well recognized food allergens, and higher rates of anaphylaxis.

Short-acting β-agonist use and its ability to predict future asthma-related outcomes.
CONCLUSION: The study identified critical values of SABA use that predict future asthma events. Each additional SABA canister predicted increases in exacerbation risk in children and adults. PMID: 23176877 [PubMed - in process]

Parental timing of allergenic food introduction in urban and suburban populations.
CONCLUSIONS: There is a difference between urban and suburban populations in the timing of introduction of allergenic foods but not in other infant solid foods. The reliance on physician recommendation for both populations supports the need for education and guidance to health care professionals on up-to-date guidance and recommendations. Factors associated with poor controller medication use in children with high asthma emergency department use.
CONCLUSION: Clinical decision making for high-risk children with asthma may be enhanced by identification of sensitization to environmental allergens, ascertaining caregiver's concerns about controller medication adverse effects and increased referral to specialty care. Physical activity, restrictions in activity, and body mass index among urban children with persistent asthma.
CONCLUSION: Many children with persistent asthma are overweight or obese, have limited opportunity for activity, and experience activity limitations. Efforts are needed to optimize asthma control and provide opportunity for increased physical activity in and outside school. TRIAL REGISTRATION: clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT01650844. The national cost of asthma among school-aged children in the United  States.
CONCLUSION: Childhood asthma continues to represent a prevalent and significant clinical and economic burden in the United States. More aggressive treatment and asthma management programs are needed to address this national financial and resource burden. PMID: 28890020 [PubMed - in process]

How often is sinus surgery performed for chronic rhinosinusitis with versus without nasal polyps?
CONCLUSION: Almost 30% of ESS were performed for CRSwNP, and these cases were, on average, more extensive, used more OR time, and more often used image guidance than surgeries for CRSsNP. The rate of surgery performed for CRSwNP varied based on geography, payer, and surgical volume, which indicted that patient selection impacted surgical management. Factors Associated With Patient Nonattendance in Rhinology Clinics.
CONCLUSION: Patients younger than 50 years and patients with Medicaid as the primary insurance types are associated with risk of missing rhinology clinic appointments. As a subspecialty, delivery of timely care and clinical efficiency could be improved by interventions directed toward improving attendance among this population.
