Analysis of mechanism of core points in acupuncture and moxibustion treatment for epilepsy based on data mining
CONCLUSIONS: The core acupoint prescription of acupuncture and moxibustion intervention for epilepsy can act on multiple targets and multiple pathways to exert anti-epileptic effects, which can provide a theoretical basis for further clinical application and mechanism research.PMID:38649211 | DOI:10.13702/j.1000-0607.20230019 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Lumbar Spinal Stenosis: Diagnosis and Management
Am Fam Physician. 2024 Apr;109(4):350-359.ABSTRACTLumbar spinal stenosis is a clinical syndrome that affects more than 200,000 people in the United States annually. It is a common cause of chronic insidious low back pain, especially in older patient populations (mean age = 64 years). Lumbar spinal stenosis is a degenerative condition of the spine leading to narrowing in the spaces around the neurovascular bundles and the classic symptom of low back pain that radiates to the buttocks and lower extremities bilaterally. It is typically a progressive waxing and waning process that may deteriorate over years. The pain is typica...

Effectiveness of Laser Acupuncture for Reducing Pain and Increasing Mouth Opening Range in Individuals with Temporomandibular Disorder: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis
AbstractPurpose of ReviewLaser acupuncture (LA) demonstrates promising results in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. However, its effects on temporomandibular disorder (TMD) are not yet fully understood. Thus, the aim of this systematic review and network meta-analysis was to assess the effectiveness of LA on pain intensity and maximum mouth opening range (MMO) related to TMD. A search was carried out in 11 electronic databases and references of included studies to locate randomized clinical trials (RCTs) that evaluated LA as a primary treatment for TMD. The risk of bias was assessed using the RoB 2 tool. Network ...

Clinical Efficacy of Adhesion Release Under Brachial Plexus Block Plus Silver Needle Warm Acupuncture on Frozen Shoulder and Recovery of Limb Function
CONCLUSION: This study provides valuable insights into the clinical efficacy of adhesion release under brachial plexus block plus silver needle warm acupuncture for frozen shoulder, there are still areas that warrant further investigation. Future research could focus on the long-term effects of the treatment, optimal treatment duration and frequency, comparison with other treatment modalities, and the inclusion of larger sample sizes to enhance the robustness of the findings.PMID:38639609 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Metabolomics of Mice with Type 2 Diabetes and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Treated by Acupuncture
CONCLUSION: Our study shows that acupuncture can regulate the liver metabolism mode of T2DM in NAFLD mice. It can reduce blood glucose and lipid accumulation in the liver, and these findings provide a new idea and theoretical basis for acupuncture in the treatment of diseases related to glucose and lipid metabolism.PMID:38633528 | PMC:PMC11023731 | DOI:10.1155/2024/5568337 (Source: International Journal of Endocrinology)

Durable Effects of Acupuncture for Knee Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
AbstractPurpose of ReviewKnee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a degenerative joint disease which can result in chronic pain and disability. The current interventions available for KOA often fail to provide long-lasting effects, highlighting the need for new treatment options that can offer durable benefits. Previous studies have suggested the efficacy of acupuncture for knee osteoarthritis (KOA) with its durability remaining uncertain. In this review, we aimed to investigate the durability of the efficacy after completion of treatment.Recent FindingsWe performed thorough searches of PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Cen...

Advancements in De Quervain Tenosynovitis Management: A Comprehensive Network Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Corticosteroid injection with a short duration of immobilization remains the primary and effective treatment for De Quervain tenosynovitis. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy can be considered a secondary option. Alternative treatment modalities, such as isolated therapeutic injection, should be approached with caution because they did not show substantial benefits over placebo.TYPE OF STUDY/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic I.PMID:38613563 | DOI:10.1016/j.jhsa.2024.03.003 (Source: Hand Surgery)
