Exam 1: Hostile Medicaid Alcoholic Wants Vicodin; hates Tramadol
View attachment 229887 Exam concordant for facet mediated pain. Brethalyzer and urine negative for ETOH. No procedures covered by state Medicaid & can't afford cash price. Reached cap for PT. Said acupuncture was "pure BS" and refuses to chiro because "they're all quacks and paralyzed my uncle." What's your next move? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Quackademic Pain Medicine
What are your concerns about psuedo-scientific quackery (acupuncture, chiropractic, energy healing, Yoga, etc) infiltrating academic pain departments? Oncology is struggling with this. Is pain the next field to be taken over by non-MD/DO psuedoscientific practitioners? The quackery of "naturopathic oncology" is metastasizing - RESPECTFUL INSOLENCE... Abandoned Practices for Chronic Pain???
A lawyer asked me a couple thought-provoking questions: Lawyer: "Doctor, is there a professional consensus on the use of opioids for chronic pain?" Me: "No." Lawyer: "Doctor, has the field of pain management abandoned using opioids for treating chronic pain?" Me: "No." So, it got me thinking. What have we abandoned? How will we ever know that there is a consensus about the appropriate use of a modality based upon evidence? Everything (chiro, acupuncture, opioids, PT, psych, etc)... Mixed Practice Vet Specializing in Surgery & Acupuncture?
I'm interested in becoming a mixed practice veterinarian specializing in both surgery and acupuncture. Is this possible? I don't know of any veterinarians that specialize in both these skills. I am an animal science major (undergrad/sophomore). (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Khan Academy Operant Conditioning Questions
Hello all, I've never had problems with operant conditioning; however, I've missed 2 questions from Khan now pertaining to operant conditioning. One has to do with a patient finding relief from pain due to acupuncture and deciding to continue acupuncture as a result. I thought this was an example of positive punishment because acupuncture is being added in order to decrease pain; however they say negative reinforcement because pain is being removed and she decides to keep going to... Discussion is nonscience and unsupported drivel. Articles cited in biblio have been fully destroyed by SFSBM. Then the letter to editor on oxycodone and pharmacogenetics is written by dr. X ruan. Yup, that guy. Ugh. Can I punch an editor at SIS. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
