The Role of Ultrasound in the Management of Ankle Sprains and a Clinically Relevant Geisinger Ankle Sprain Sports Ultrasound Protocol
This article proposes a comprehensive, evidence-based diagnostic ankle ultrasound protocol to implement in conjunction with thorough history and physical examination. We also review the current literature to describe where this protocol most improves diagnostic accuracy compared with physical examination alone.PMID:37678351 | DOI:10.1249/JSR.0000000000001105

Frozen Shoulder: Diagnosis and Management
Curr Sports Med Rep. 2023 Sep 1;22(9):307-312. doi: 10.1249/JSR.0000000000001097.ABSTRACTFrozen shoulder is a common condition that causes pain and restriction of movement of the shoulder unrelated to secondary causes. It has three classic phases (freezing, frozen, and thawing), and is resolved in most cases within 1 to 2 years. Diagnosis is clinical based on global motion restriction and pain. Imaging plays an ancillary role to narrow the differential diagnosis. Physical therapy, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, and injection therapies are standard treatments, although none have been shown to alter the long-term course o...

Nonpharmacologic Pain Management for Patients in Ambulatory Extended Recovery After Minimally Invasive Gynecologic and Urologic Surgery
This study focused on patients recovering from minimally invasive gynecologic and urologic surgery at a comprehensive cancer center. The first cohort consisted of patients three months preimplementation (n = 96) and the second consisted of those three months postimplementation (n = 86).METHODOLOGIC APPROACH: The project used a pre- and postintervention design and deployed the bundle as a nursing order. Nurses and patients were educated about the bundle and comprehensive postoperation pain management strategies.FINDINGS: Postimplementation, the documented use of nonpharmacologic pain management interventions significantly i...

Clin J Oncol Nurs. 2023 Jul 20;27(4):404-410. doi: 10.1188/23.CJON.404-410.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The use of clinical aromatherapy for managing pain has been studied in surgical patients and in women during childbirth. However, there are limited data on the use of aromatherapy for alleviating cancer-related pain, particularly at the end of life.OBJECTIVES: This pilot study identifies the pre- and postimplementation effects of aromatherapy on pain level, pain perception, and the use of oral morphine equivalent among patients with cancer at the end of life.METHODS: A survey was conducted to assess participant pain levels preimp...

Serratus anterior fascia plane block for pain control in patients with multiple rib fractures
Conclusion] We report the cases of three patients who completed respiratory physiotherapy after receiving intermittent SAP blocks for the management of pain due to multiple rib fractures. SAP blocks are associated with a low risk of complications as the ribs are not punctured while performing SAP blocks.PMID:37670765 | PMC:PMC10475645 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.35.673

Targeting mitochondrial circadian rhythms: The potential intervention strategies of Traditional Chinese medicine for myocardial ischaemia ‒reperfusion injury
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Sep 4;166:115432. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115432. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCoronary artery disease has one of the highest mortality rates in the country, and methods such as thrombolysis and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) can effectively improve symptoms and reduce mortality, but most patients still experience symptoms such as chest pain after PCI, which seriously affects their quality of life and increases the incidence of adverse cardiovascular events (myocardial ischaemiareperfusion injury, MIRI). MIRI has been shown to be closely associated with circadian rhythm disorders and...
