Refinement of the Barnes and Morris water maze protocols improves characterization of spatial cognitive deficits in the lithium-pilocarpine rat model of epilepsy
This study optimized the procedure of the Morris water maze and the Barnes maze to evaluate spatial learning and memory in rats with the lithium-pilocarpine TLE model (LPM rats). It was demonstrated that LPM rats required a mandatory and prolonged habituation stage for both tests. Therefore, the experimental rats performed relatively well on these tests. Nevertheless, LPM rats exhibited a slower learning process compared to the control rats. LPM rats also showed a reduction in spatial memory formation. This was more pronounced in the Barnes maze. Also, LPM rats utilized a sequential strategy for searching in the Barnes maz...

Stabilizing Decavanadate Cluster as Electrode Material in Sodium and Lithium-ion Batteries
This study shows a crystal engineering approach to stabilize the cluster with organic guanidinium (Gdm+) cation through the hydrogen-bonding interactions between the amino groups of the cation and the anion. The comparison of solubility and thermal stability of the Gdm{V10} with another cluster bearing tetrabutylammonium (Tba+) cation reveals the better stability of cation-anion assembly in the former than the latter. As a result, the Gdm{V10} delivers better rate capability and cycling stability than Tba{V10} when tested as anode material in a half-cell configuration of a sodium-ion battery. Finally, the performance of th...

Dendrite inhibited and dead lithium activated dual-function additive for lithium metal batteries
In this study, 2-fluoro-5-iodopyridine (2-F-5-IPy) was used as an electrolyte additive, which can not only protect the negative electrode effectively by forming a stable SEI, but also convert dead lithium into active lithium. Benefits from this are a capacity retention of a Li‖LiFePO4 cell after 300 cycles from 36.5% to 89.4%, and the symmetrical cell can work stably for more than 800 hours. Therefore, the addition of 2-F-5-IPy can effectively improve the performance of lithium metal batteries.PMID:37615934 | DOI:10.1039/d3cc03085g

A B- and F-enriched buffering interphase enables a high-rate and high-stability SiO < sub > < em > x < /em > < /sub > /C anode
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Aug 24. doi: 10.1039/d3cc03427e. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA facile, universal surface engineering strategy is proposed to address the volume expansion and slow kinetic issues encountered by SiOx/C anodes. A B-/F-enriched buffering interphase is introduced onto SiOx/C by thermal treatment of pre-adsorbed lithium salts at 400 °C. The as-prepared anode integrates both high-rate performance and long-term cycling durability.PMID:37615034 | DOI:10.1039/d3cc03427e

Potential Controllable Redox Couple for Mild and Efficient Lithium Recovery from Spent Batteries
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Aug 24:e202310435. doi: 10.1002/anie.202310435. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe prosperity of the lithium-ion battery market is dialectically accompanied by the depletion of corresponding resources and the accumulation of spent batteries. It is an urgent priority to develop green and efficient battery recycling strategies for helping ease resources and environmental pressures at the current stage. Here, we propose a mild and efficient lithium extracting strategy based on potential controllable redox couple. Active lithium in the spent battery without discharging was extracted using a series o...

A Freestanding 3D Skeleton with Gradationally Distributed Lithiophilic Sites for Realizing Stable Lithium Anodes
Chemistry. 2023 Aug 23:e202301991. doi: 10.1002/chem.202301991. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLi metal anodes are drawing considerable attention owing to their ultrahigh theoretical capacities and low electrochemical reduction potentials. However, their commercialization has been hampered by safety hazards induced by continuous dendrite growth. These issues can be alleviated using the ZnO-modified 3D carbon-based host containing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon felt (CF) fabricated by electroplating in the present study (denoted as ZnO/CNT@CF); the constructed skeleton has lithiophilic ZnO that is gradationally distribut...
