Diagnosis and treatment of glomerular diseases with a membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) pattern of injury
Wien Klin Wochenschr. 2023 Aug;135(Suppl 5):688-695. doi: 10.1007/s00508-023-02264-7. Epub 2023 Sep 20.ABSTRACTMembranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) represents a heterogeneous group of diseases. The common feature of a membranoproliferative lesion pattern in the kidney biopsy can either be idiopathic/primary or-much more frequently-have a secondary cause. The historical classification into MPGN types I to III has largely been abandoned and replaced in recent years by a pathogenesis-oriented classification. A MPGN with C1q, C3 and/or C4 deposits on light microscopy is referred to as immune complex GN (IC-GN), whil...

Early prediction of growth patterns after pediatric kidney transplantation based on height-related single-nucleotide polymorphisms
CONCLUSIONS: A model with good performance for predicting post-transplant growth patterns in children based on SNPs and clinical variables was constructed and validated using machine learning algorithms. The model is expected to guide clinicians in the management of children after renal transplantation, including the use of growth hormone, glucocorticoid withdrawal, and nutritional supplementation, to alleviate growth retardation in children with ESRD.PMID:37672508 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002828

Interventions for fatigue in people with kidney failure requiring dialysis
CONCLUSIONS: Exercise, aromatherapy, massage and acupressure may improve fatigue compared to placebo, standard care or no intervention. Pharmacological and other non-pharmacological interventions had uncertain effects on fatigue or fatigue-related outcomes in people receiving dialysis. Future adequately powered, high-quality studies are likely to change the estimated effects of interventions for fatigue and fatigue-related outcomes in people receiving dialysis.PMID:37651553 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD013074.pub2

Outcome of kidney transplantation from senior deceased donors: a single centre study
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that kidney transplantation from carefully selected very old donors seems a valid option with reasonable short- and mid-term outcomes.PMID:37556837 | DOI:10.57187/smw.2023.40098

Prostaglandins for adult liver transplanted recipients
CONCLUSIONS: Eleven trials evaluated prostaglandins in adult liver transplanted recipients. Based on low-certainty evidence, prostaglandins may reduce all-cause mortality up to one month; may cause little to no difference in serious adverse events, liver retransplantation, early allograft dysfunction, primary non-function of the allograft, and length of hospital stay; and may have a large reduction in the development of acute kidney injury requiring dialysis. We do not know the effect of prostaglandins on adverse events considered non-serious. We lack adequately powered, high-quality trials evaluating the effects of prosta...
