Scandcleft randomized trials of primary surgery for unilateral cleft lip and palate: Speech proficiency at 10  years of age
CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS: The speech outcome in terms of PCC and VPC was low across the trials. The different protocols had their pros and cons and there is no obvious evidence to recommend any of the protocols as superior. Aspects other than primary surgical method, such as time after velopharyngeal surgery, surgical experience, hearing level, language difficulties and speech therapy, need to be thoroughly reviewed for a better understanding of what has affected speech outcome at 10 years.WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on the subject Speech outcomes at 10 years of age in children treated for UCLP are sparse...

The Severity-Calibrated Aphasia Naming Test
CONCLUSION: We provide a linear model to convert SCANT scores to aphasia severity scores, and we identify a change score cutoff of four SCANT items to obtain a high degree of confidence based on test-retest SCANT data and the modeled relation between SCANT and aphasia severity scores.SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.21476871.PMID:36332139 | DOI:10.1044/2022_AJSLP-22-00071

Growth Effects on Velopharyngeal Anatomy Within the First 2 Years of Life
CONCLUSIONS: Results of this study demonstrate growth of velopharyngeal anatomy in normative infants with race and sex effects apparent in children up to 24 months of age. Variable growth trends were observed among different velopharyngeal measures.PMID:36001858 | DOI:10.1044/2022_JSLHR-22-00186

Post-COVID-19 paradoxical vocal cord movement and dysfunctional dysphonia: A clinical case
CONCLUSION: Resistant dyspnea to empiric treatment, after COVID-19, should suggest the diagnosis of paradoxical vocal fold movement. Laryngoscopy should be done to confirm the diagnosis, and the patient should be referred to a speech therapist.PMID:35874177 | PMC:PMC9287584 | DOI:10.1016/j.rmcr.2022.101710
