Relationship between seminal vesicle displacement and distribution of hydrogel spacer within the perirectal space in prostate radiotherapy
In conclusion, SV cranial displacement was influenced by HS lateral distribution of ≥1.00 cm in the upper two slices. Therefore, when the sigmoid colon or small bowel is depressed in rectovesical excavation and SV needs to be included in the target volume, HS insertion should be performed carefully.PMID:37719041 | PMC:PMC10502802 | DOI:10.3892/mco.2023.2674

Anti-SOX-1 Antibody-Positive Paraneoplastic Limbic Encephalitis Diagnosed During Small Cell Lung Cancer Treatment
We present a case of anti-Sry-like high mobility group box 1 (SOX-1) antibody-positive PNS diagnosed during the treatment of small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). A 65-year-old woman with a history of smoking and SCLC (T3N1M0) was hospitalized to receive chemo-radiation therapy. On day 14, the course was complicated by left mastitis associated with febrile neutropenia. Drainage was performed for the left mastitis, and cefepime was initiated. The fever subsided within a few days, but the patient became agitated accompanied by logorrhea. With the exception of mental status, her neurological examination was unremarkable. Due to mild...

Selecting the optimal radiation modality in prostate cancer
Clin Adv Hematol Oncol. 2023 Sep;21(9):494-501.ABSTRACTThere are numerous radiation modalities for the definitive treatment of localized prostate cancer. Classic clinical trials have established the basic tenets of treatment approaches, and emerging data have generated new potential avenues of treatment that optimize the therapeutic ratio by increasing prostate cancer tumor control while minimizing treatment-related toxicity. In the definitive setting, the selection of the optimal radiation therapy approach depends largely on the appropriate up-front risk stratification of men with prostate cancer, with greater intensifica...

Tumour status prediction by means of carbon-ion beam irradiation: comparison of washout rates between in-beam PET and DCE-MRI in rats
Phys Med Biol. 2023 Aug 25. doi: 10.1088/1361-6560/acf438. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Tumour response to radiation therapy appears as changes in tumour vascular condition. There are several methods for analysing tumour blood circulatory changes one of which is dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI), but there is no method that can observe the tumour vascular condition and physiological changes at the site of radiation therapy. Positron emission tomography (PET) has been applied for treatment verification in charged particle therapy, which is based on the detection of positron emitters ...

Assessing the feasibility of utilizing artificial intelligence-segmented dominant intraprostatic lesion for focal intraprostatic boost with external beam radiation therapy
CONCLUSIONS: AI-segmented GTVs demonstrate potential for intraprostatic boosting, though the degree of boosting may be adversely impacted by false negative lesions. Prospective review of AI-segmented GTVs remains essential.PMID:37517600 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2023.07.029

Is Apparent Diffusion Coefficient Established as an Imaging Biomarker for Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy Assessment in Hepatocellular Carcinoma?
Cancer J. 2023 Jul-Aug 01;29(4):238-242. doi: 10.1097/PPO.0000000000000668.ABSTRACTIn this article, as part of this special issue on biomarkers of early response, we review currently available reports regarding magnetic resonance imaging apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) changes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in response to stereotactic body radiation therapy. We compare diffusion image acquisition, ADC analysis, methods for HCC response assessment, and statistical methods for prediction of local tumor progression by ADC metrics. We discuss the pros and cons of these studies. Following detailed analyses of existing i...
