Comparing a novel wide field of view laparoscope with conventional laparoscope while performing laparoscopic cholecystectomy
ConclusionsInitial results demonstrate the advantages of the SurroundScope over standard laparoscopy. By expanding the FoV, visualization is improved, the procedure is more efficient, significantly shorter and most important, patient safety, per surgeons ’ testimonials is improved. Further investigation to quantify these benefits in a larger group of patients and among various surgical procedures should be considered.

A modified esophagogastric reconstruction method after laparoscopic proximal gastrectomy: A technical note with video vignette
CONCLUSION: The "arch-bridge-type" reconstruction method is safe and time saving. It has advantages in simplifying the procedure of conventional double flap technique and reducing postoperative complications after proximal gastrectomy.PMID:37730505 | DOI:10.1016/j.asjsur.2023.09.017

Robotic versus laparoscopic gastric bypass in bariatric surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis on perioperative outcomes
CONCLUSION: This systematic review and meta-analysis showed that there was no significant difference in key outcome measures in robotic versus laparoscopic gastric bypass. RBS was associated with a slightly higher reoperation rate and there was no reduction in overall complication rate with the use of robotic platform.PMID:37730445 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.08.007

Experimental evaluation of the use of starch and carboxymethylcellulose in the prevention of intraperitoneal adhesions in hernia surgery with coated meshes
CONCLUSIONS: The use of SC decreased the intensity of adhesions and the surface area of the mesh affected by adhesions. There was no negative interference of the product in the incorporation of the mesh into the abdominal wall.PMID:37729350 | DOI:10.1590/acb383323

Endoscopic therapies for patients with obesity: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionThis review is the first to evaluate various endoscopic bariatric therapies using only RCTs and observational studies for evaluation of weight loss compared with conservative management, lifestyle modification, and  bariatric surgery. Endoscopic therapies result in greater weight loss compared to lifestyle modification, but not as much as bariatric surgery. Endoscopic therapies may be beneficial as an alternative to bariatric surgery.

Retroperitoneal approach for robot living donor nephrectomy: A step-by-step description of technical nuances
We describe the procedural steps of a robotic living donor nephrectomy (RLDN) retroperitoneal (RRLDN) technique using a da Vinci X surgical system and three robotic arms. This is the first reported case with the retroperitoneal robotic approach. The procedure in brief is as follows. First, with the patient placed in full flank position, the camera port is placed at the level of the Petit's triangle apex. Retroperitoneal space is created by turning the index finger in a 180° movement through this port and a gloves balloon. The second 8mm port was inserted, 8 cm far from the first port, The peritoneum is reflected medially ...

Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repair
Surg Clin North Am. 2023 Oct;103(5):947-960. doi: 10.1016/j.suc.2023.05.009. Epub 2023 Jul 12.ABSTRACTThe laparoscopic approach to ventral hernia repair is a safe and effective approach for both elective and emergent repair. The preoperative technical considerations include assessment of incarceration and potential for extensive adhesiolysis, size of defect, and atypical hernia locations. Preoperative considerations include weight loss and lifestyle modification. There are multiple methods of fascial defect closure and mesh fixation that the surgeon may consider via a laparoscopic approach, making it adaptable to varying c...

Primary Uncomplicated Ventral Hernia Repair: Guidelines and Practice Patterns for Routine Hernia Repairs
Surg Clin North Am. 2023 Oct;103(5):901-915. doi: 10.1016/j.suc.2023.04.004. Epub 2023 May 8.ABSTRACTSurgical repair of primary umbilical and epigastric hernias are among the most common abdominal operations in the world. The hernia defects range from small (<1 cm) to large and complex even in the absence of prior incision or repair. Mesh has generally been shown to decrease recurrence rates, and its use and location of placement should be individualized for each patient. Open, laparoscopic, and robotic approaches provide unique considerations for the technical aspects of primary repair with or without mesh augmentation...

The Minimally Invasive Inguinal Hernia: Current Trends and Considerations
Surg Clin North Am. 2023 Oct;103(5):875-887. doi: 10.1016/j.suc.2023.04.002. Epub 2023 May 10.ABSTRACTInguinal hernias are one of the most common surgical pathologies faced by the general surgeon in modern medicine. The cumulative incidence of an inguinal hernia is around 25% in men and 3% in women. The majority of inguinal hernias can be repaired minimally invasively, utilizing either robotic or laparoscopic approaches.PMID:37709393 | DOI:10.1016/j.suc.2023.04.002

The Influence of the Preoperative Albumin to Alkaline Phosphatase Ratio on Overall Survival in Post-Radical Surgery for Colorectal Cancer and the Construction of a Nomogram Prediction Model
CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative AAPR level was a good predictor of postoperative survival in patients undergoing laparoscopic radical CRC surgery, and AAPR <.495 was an independent risk factor for decreased postoperative OS.PMID:37698898 | DOI:10.1177/00031348231200674
