Vital Pulp Therapy in Permanent Mature Posterior Teeth with Symptomatic Irreversible Pulpitis: A Systematic Review of Treatment Outcomes
Conclusions: The reviewed 12 articles reported favorable outcomes of the VPT performed with HCSCs in permanent mature posterior teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis, with radiographic success in the range of 81 to 90%. Two articles suggested comparable outcomes of the VPT and root canal treatment. Universal case selection and outcome criteria needs to be established for VPT when considered as an alternative to NSRCT. This evidence supports the need for further research comparing longer-term outcomes of both of the treatment modalities.PMID:34205149 | DOI:10.3390/medicina57060573

Antiresorptive and anabolic medications used in the perioperative period of patients with osteoporosis undergoing spine surgery: their impact on the biology of fusion and systematic review of the literature
CONCLUSIONS: Although antiosteoporosis agents are effective to varying degrees as treatments of patients with low BMD, teriparatide and bisphosphonates have been the most extensively studied with respect to spinal instrumentation. The advent of newer agents represents an area for further exploration, especially due to the current paucity of controlled investigations. It is imperative for spine surgeons to understand the mechanisms of action of these drugs and their effects on biology of fusion.PMID:34062504 | DOI:10.3171/2021.3.FOCUS201049

Implantoplasty- provoking or reducing inflammation? - a systematic scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Within its limits, the findings of the present scoping review indicated that BoP is reduced following surgical peri-implantitis treatment with adjunctive implantoplasty, and that this improvement is in line with surgical peri-implantitis treatment without adjunctive implantoplasty.PMID:34252338 | DOI:10.1080/00016357.2021.1945142

Holistic processing only? The role of the right fusiform face area in radiological expertise
by Ellen M. Kok, Bettina Sorger, Koos van Geel, Andreas Gegenfurtner, Jeroen J. G. van Merri ënboer, Simon G. F. Robben, Anique B. H. de Bruin Radiologists can visually detect abnormalities on radiographs within 2s, a process that resembles holistic visual processing of faces. Interestingly, there is empirical evidence using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) for the involvement of the right fusiform face area (FFA) in visual-e xpertise tasks such as radiological image interpretation. The speed by which stimuli (e.g., faces, abnormalities) are recognized is an important characteristic of holistic processing. Ho...

Matrix Metalloproteinases: biomarker of disease activity and prognosis in Spondyloarthritis. A narrative review
CONCLUSION: Excessive Matrix metalloproteinases activity is associated with articular destruction. Their levels can reflect disease activity, structural damage, and response to TNFi in patients with spondyloarthritis. Nevertheless, further studies are needed to confirm these results.PMID:35049445 | DOI:10.2174/2772432817666220113112809

Radiographic and histological assessment of root resorption associated with conventional and mini-screw assisted rapid palatal expansion: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: Maxillary expansion with RPE can lead to root resorption of maxillary posterior teeth. Root resorption occurs more frequently on buccal surfaces on maxillary posterior teeth. Limited evidence suggests that MARPE may lead to reduced root resorption than RPE.REGISTRATION: This systematic review was conducted following the Cochrane handbook for systematic reviews and interventions and reported according to the guidelines of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. The protocol was registered at PROSPERO database (https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/; registration number...

Pelvic Malunion: A Systematic Review, Dichotomy of Definitions and Treatment
Conclusions: Pelvic malunion is a rare complication of pelvic ring injury and is seldom discussed in the literature. We found two small case series reporting exclusively on malunion treatment and complications. While some of the combination studies made the distinction in the diagnosis of malunion and nonunion, they rarely differentiated the treatment outcomes between the two categories. This paper describes pelvic malunion and highlights the need for more research into surgical outcomes of treatment specifically regarding functionality, patient satisfaction, and recurrence of preoperative symptoms.PMID:36013565 | DOI:10.3390/medicina58081098
