Discovery of small molecule β-catenin suppressors that enhance immunotherapy
In this study, we report our discovery of DSS-C12 and DSS-B8, specific ester-based drugs derived from Dan-Shen-Su (DSS) extracted from the herb Salvia miltiorrhiza. Remarkably, these compounds display a potent ability to downregulate β-catenin, while also improving overall survival in post-surgery mice. Additionally, when these drugs are used in combination with PD-L1 checkpoint blockade, they stimulate enhanced systemic immune responses leading to significant suppression of primary tumor growth. In-depth mechanistic studies revealed that DSS-B8 functions as a vitamin D receptor agonist without inducing hypercalcemic effe...

Molecular mechanism of ferulic acid and its derivatives in tumor progression
Pharmacol Rep. 2023 May 18. doi: 10.1007/s43440-023-00494-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCancer is a significant disease that poses a major threat to human health. The main therapeutic methods for cancer include traditional surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and new therapeutic methods such as targeted therapy and immunotherapy, which have been developed rapidly in recent years. Recently, the tumor antitumor effects of the active ingredients of natural plants have attracted extensive attention. Ferulic acid (FA), (3-methoxy-4-hydroxyl cinnamic), with the molecular formula is C10H10O4, is a phenolic organic compound fou...

dl-THP recovered the decreased NKp44 expression level on CD56 < sup > dim < /sup > CD16 < sup > + < /sup > natural killer cells partially in choriocarcinoma microenvironment
In this study, we found that the proportion of blood CD56dimCD16+ NK cells was decreased while the proportion of CD56brightCD16- NK cells was increased when the cells were cultured in conditional medium (CM, medium from the human choriocarcinoma cell lines JEG-3). dl-THP could alter the varied proportion of CD56dimCD16+ NK cells and CD56brightCD16- NK cells in CM respectively. Importantly, the expression level of NKp44 on CD56dimCD16+ NK cells was dramatically reduced when the cells were cultured in CM, which could also be reversed by dl-THP. Furthermore, dl-THP increased the decreased NK-cell cytotoxicity when cells were ...

A Comprehensive Overview of Allergen-specific Immunotherapy Types, Recombinant and Natural Extract Allergens in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Allergies
Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2022 Oct 26;21(5):494-511. doi: 10.18502/ijaai.v21i5.11038.ABSTRACTAllergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) involves administering allergen extracts. It is used to desensitize allergic patients. Herbal allergen extracts that are optimum in efficacy and fewest in side effects are still challenging to produce. To overcome these limitations, oral immunotherapy, epicutaneous immunotherapy, intralymphatic immunotherapy, and artificial recombinant allergen preparations have been evaluated. Recombinant allergens have become more popular with the development of molecular diagnostics and therapeutics. Be...
