Zhizi-Chuanxiong herb pair alleviates atherosclerosis progression in ApoE < sup > -/- < /sup > mice by promoting the methylation of FGFR3 to inhibit MAPK/ERK-mediated apoptosis
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that ZCHP can effectively attenuate AS progression by inhibiting MAPK/ERK signaling-mediated apoptosis via FGFR3 hypermethylation in the promoter region.PMID:37716492 | DOI:10.1016/j.jep.2023.117188

Network pharmacology and molecular docking to explore the mechanism of Sheng Xue Bao mixture against iron deficiency anemia
Medicine (Baltimore). 2023 Sep 15;102(37):e35012. doi: 10.1097/MD.0000000000035012.ABSTRACTBased on network pharmacology and molecular docking, we investigated the mechanism of action of Sheng Xue Bao mixture (SXBM) in treating iron deficiency anemia (IDA). We screened the HERB and traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology database and analysis platform databases to identify the active ingredients and targets of SXBM. The targets associated with "iron deficiency anemia" were collected from GeneCards, TTD, and OMIM databases. A component-target interaction network was constructed using Cytoscape 3.8.2. The protein-p...

Sitosterol-rich < em > Digera muricata < /em > against 7-ketocholesterol and lipopolysaccharide-mediated atherogenic responses by modulating NF- ΚB/iNOS signalling pathway in macrophages
This study aimed to elucidate the effect of a phytosterol-rich extract of D. muricata on 7-ketocholesterol-mediated atherosclerosis in macrophages. The extract was examined by phytochemical analyses, GC-MS, TLC, DPPH scavenging and hRBC membrane stabilization assays. Macrophage polarization was studied with experimental groups framed based on alamar blue cell viability and griess assays. Regulations of arginase enzyme activity, ROS generation, mitochondrial membrane potential, cell membrane integrity, pinocytosis, lipid uptake and peroxidation, as well as, intracellular calcium deposition were determined. In addition, expr...

Verbascoside: A neuroprotective phenylethanoid glycosides with anti-depressive properties
CONCLUSIONS: These findings provide strong evidence that verbascoside exerts its antidepressant effects through various pharmacological mechanisms. However, further multicentre clinical case-control and molecularly targeted fishing studies are required to confirm the clinical efficacy of verbascoside and its underlying direct targets.PMID:37657207 | DOI:10.1016/j.phymed.2023.155027

A propensity score matched comparison of blood pressure lowering in essential hypertension patients treated with antihypertensive Chinese herbal Medicine: comparing the real-world registry data vs. randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSION: The current comparison demonstrated that SXC monotherapy is at least as effective in real-world settings as within the randomized controlled trial for BP lowering in patients with grade 1 hypertension.PMID:37639695 | DOI:10.1080/10641963.2023.2249269

Targeting Retinol-Binding Protein 4 (RBP4) in the Management of Cardiometabolic Diseases
Cardiovasc Toxicol. 2023 Aug 16. doi: 10.1007/s12012-023-09803-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe ancient use of herbs for the treatment of various human diseases have been documented, with several scientific literatures supporting the use of medicinal plants. There is however a major concern about the phyto-constituents in the plants that performs the healing function and the mechanism by which it works for different ailments are still a research prospect. Cardiometabolic disease (CMD) is no doubt becoming more frequent globally and this is due to poor approach in therapy, contrary effects linked with intensive control,...
