Drug delivery using biocompatible covalent organic frameworks (COFs) towards a therapeutic approach
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1039/d3cc01829f. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCovalent organic frameworks (COFs) are constructed exclusively with lightweight organic scaffolds, which can have a 2D or 3D architecture. The ease of synthesis, robust skeleton and tunable properties of COFs make them superior candidates among their counterparts for a wide range of uses including biomedical applications. In the biomedical field, drug delivery or photodynamic-photothermal (PDT-PTT) therapy can be individually considered a potential parameter to be investigated. Therefore, this comprehensive review is focused on drug del...

Supramolecular interface decoration on a polymer conductor for an intrinsically stretchable near-infrared photodiode
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1039/d3cc04189a. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStretchable photodiodes with near-infrared (NIR) response face the challenge of material deficiency. A supramolecular cathode with excellent optical, tensile and electrical properties was proposed. Together with a stretchable organic heterojunction, we developed an intrinsically stretchable NIR photodiode with high detectivity over 1011 Jones and that remained functional under 100% strain.PMID:37724429 | DOI:10.1039/d3cc04189a

The glass transition in the high-density amorphous Zn/Co-ZIF-4
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1039/d3cc02492j. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe high-density amorphous phases (HDAs) of bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (Zn/Co-ZIF-4) were prepared. The temperature dependence of the isobaric heat capacity (Cp) of ZIF-4 HDAs was measured to determine the glass transition temperature (Tg) of HDAs. The Tg non-linearly decreases with the molar ratio R, where R is Co/(Co + Zn), indicating the presence of a mixed-metal node effect. This effect arises from the non-linear increase of the degree of configurational freedom in the HDA as R increases. The degree of configurationa...

Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 17:140186. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140186. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFood waste compost (FWC) is a sustainable recycling approach employed in soil media, offering extensive advantages to urban areas by promoting resource circulation and effectively managing water pollution. To improve value, Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis)-induced FWC-based biomedia (BIBMFWCs) were produced via a secondary treatment involving selective meso-thermophilic stages. During the production of BIBMFWCs, physicochemical properties were found to have favorable characteristics for the efficient removal of metal ions....

Characteristics of dissolved organic matter in point-source wastewaters at a petrochemical plant: Molecular constituents and contributions to the influent of wastewater treatment plant
In this study, DOM in three low-salinity point-source PCWs and four high-salinity point-source PCWs at a typical petrochemical plant were comprehensively characterized at a molecular level. Orbitrap mass spectrometry results indicated that point-source PCWs had diverse DOM constituents tightly related to the corresponding petrochemical processes. Phenols in oily wastewaters (OW), phenols and N-containing compounds in coal partial oxidation wastewater (POXW), and naphthenic acids (NAs) and aromatic acids in crude oil electric desalting unit wastewater (EDW) were characteristic DOM constituents for low-salinity point-source ...

Color-Tunable Dual-Mode Organic Afterglow for White-Light Emission and Information Encryption Based on Carbazole Doping
In this study, a carbazole-based host-guest system that can be activated by both ultraviolet (UV) and visible light is reported to achieve balanced phosphorescence and delayed fluorescence, resulting in a long-lived white-light afterglow. Our study demonstrated the critical role of a charge transfer state in the afterglow mechanism, where the charge separation and recombination process directly determined the lifetime of afterglow. Simultaneously, an efficient reversed intersystem crossing process was obtained between the singlet and triplet charge transfer states, which further boosted the delayed fluorescence properties ...

Anti-Stokes Luminescence in Multi-Resonance-Type Thermally-Activated Delayed Fluorescence Molecules
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Sep 19:e202312326. doi: 10.1002/anie.202312326. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhoton-upconversion in organic molecular systems is one of the promising technologies for future energy harvesting systems because these systems can generate excitons that possess higher energy than excitation energy. The photon-upconversion caused by absorbing ambient heat as additional energy is particularly interesting because it could ideally provide a light-driving cooling system. However, only a few organic molecular systems have been reported. Here, we report the anti-Stokes photoluminescence (ASPL) derived fro...

Nanosheet-Assembled Zirconium-Porphyrin Frameworks Enabling Surface-Confined, Initiator-Free Photosynthesis of Ultrahigh Molecular Weight Polymers
We present here the controlled synthesis of a novel class of hierarchical zirconium-porphyrin frameworks (ZrPHPs) with nanosheet-assembled hexagonal prism morphology. The crystal growth behaviors and structural evolution of ZrPHPs in an additive-modulated hydrothermal synthesis are examined, showing an "assembly-hydrolysis-reassembly" mechanism towards the formation of 2D nanosheets with ordered arrangement. Because of the highly-accessible active sites harvesting broadband photons, ZrPHPs serve as adaptable photocatalysts to regulate macromolecular synthesis under full-range visible light and natural sunlight. An initiato...

Hydrogen-Bonded Organic Framework to Upgrade Cycling Stability and Rate Capability of Li-CO2 Batteries
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Sep 19:e202311480. doi: 10.1002/anie.202311480. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTElaborately designed multifunctional electrocatalysts capable of promoting Li+ and CO2 transport are essential for upgrading the cycling stability and rate capability of Li-CO2 batteries. Hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) with open channels and easily functionalized surfaces hold great potential for applications in efficient cathodes of Li-CO2 batteries. Herein, a robust HOFS (HOF-FJU-1) is introduced for the first time as a co-catalyst in the cathode material of Li-CO2 batteries. HOF-FJU-1 with cyano groups l...

Enantioselective De Novo Synthesis of α,α-Diaryl Ketones from Alkynes
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Sep 19:e202310078. doi: 10.1002/anie.202310078. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChiral α,α-diaryl ketones are structural motifs commonly present in bioactive molecules, and they are also valuable building blocks in synthetic organic chemistry. However, catalytic asymmetric synthesis of α,α-diaryl ketones bearing a tertiary stereogenic center remains largely unsolved. Herein, we report a catalytic de novo enantioselective synthesis of α,α-diaryl ketones from simple alkynes via chiral phosphoric acid (CPA) catalysis. A broad range of enolizable α,α-diaryl ketones are prepared in good yields...
