Unraveling corticotropin-releasing factor family-orchestrated signaling and function in both sexes
Vitam Horm. 2023;123:27-65. doi: 10.1016/bs.vh.2023.01.009. Epub 2023 Feb 14.ABSTRACTStress responses to physical, psychological, environmental, or cellular stressors, has two arms: initiation and recovery. Corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) is primarily responsible for regulating and/or initiating stress responses via, whereas urocortins (UCNs) are involved in the recovery response to stress via feedback inhibition. Stress is a loaded, polysemous word and is experienced in a myriad of ways. Some stressors are good for an individual, in fact essential, whereas other stressors are associated with bad outcomes. Perceived s...

Policy, Systems, and Environmental Changes in Child Nutrition Programs: A Systematic Literature Review
Adv Nutr. 2023 Sep 14:S2161-8313(23)01377-7. doi: 10.1016/j.advnut.2023.09.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides healthy food to millions of children annually. To promote increased lunch consumption, policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) change strategies are being implemented in child nutrition programs. An evaluation of the current evidence supporting PSE interventions in school nutrition programs is needed to facilitate evidence-based practices across the nation for programs. This systematic review aims to determine the quality and breadth of available evidence of the ef...

School-based supplementation with iron-folic acid or multiple micronutrient tablets to address anemia among adolescents in Burkina Faso: a cluster-randomized trial
CONCLUSIONS: Results do not provide strong evidence that weekly IFA or daily MMS supplementation alone is effective, but supplementation may play a role in addressing adolescent anemia if combined with co-interventions. Additional research is required to determine the best strategy to address anemia.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRY: ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04657640 TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT04657640, registered December 8, 2020.PMID:37716443 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2023.09.004

Artificial reproduction of the indoor-cultured brackish form of maraena whitefish (Coregonus maraena) under recirculated aquaculture system (RAS) conditions
Anim Reprod Sci. 2023 Sep 9;257:107329. doi: 10.1016/j.anireprosci.2023.107329. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMaraena whitefish (Coregonus maraena) is a promising coldwater aquaculture species, especially in terms of meat quality. This versatile whitefish species, which inhabits both fresh and brackish waters, including the Baltic Sea, offers promising prospects for aquaculture breeding and cultivation. However, the main problem is the lack of availability of spawners of this species. Therefore, in this study, an attempt was made to raise the spawning stock under controlled conditions and then artificially reproduce the fi...

In situ effects of microplastics on the decomposition of aquatic macrophyte litter in eutrophic shallow lake sediments, China
Environ Pollut. 2023 Sep 14:122543. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.122543. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe toxicity of microplastics (MPs) to aquatic organisms has been extensively studied recently. However, few studies have investigated the effects of MPs in sediments on aquatic ecosystem functioning. In the present study, we conducted an in situ experiment to explore the concentration-dependent effects (0.025%, 0.25%, 2.5%) and size-dependent effects (150-300 μm and 500-1000 μm) of polypropylene microplastics (PP MPs) on Vallisneria natans litter decomposition dynamics, in particular, the process associated with macroinv...

Trade liberalization and nutrition transition: Evidence from China
Econ Hum Biol. 2023 Sep 9;51:101304. doi: 10.1016/j.ehb.2023.101304. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe examine the impact of trade liberalization on the nutrition transition between 1997 and 2011. Our findings demonstrate that the reduction in tariff rates has had a significant effect on the dietary patterns of both rural and urban residents in the country. With the decrease in tariffs, there has been a noticeable increase in the consumption of animal products (such as meat and aquatic products), vegetables, beans and nuts, as well as packaged and processed foods. Simultaneously, there has been a decrease in the demand for ...
