Toxicity of bisphenol A (BPA) and its analogues BPF and BPS on the free-floating macrophyte Salvinia biloba
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 19:140235. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140235. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEvidence linking the toxicity of bisphenol A (BPA) to environmental and public-health issues has led to restrictions on its use. This compound has been gradually replaced with analogues proposed as a safer alternative, normally bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol S (BPS), but these substitutes are structurally almost identical to BPA, suggesting they may pose similar risks. The effects of BPA and these analogues were compared for antioxidant activity, lipid peroxidation, free-radical generation, photosynthetic pigments, and c...

The performance of hypochlorous acid modified Ag nanoparticle-based assay in the determination of total antioxidant capacity of Boswellia Serrata and Aronia
In this study, the SNPAC method was developed by using hypochlorous (ClO-) at pH 9.3. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was used as a stabilizer. The existence of HOCl enables to formation stronger and more stable yellow emission which gives sensitivity. As a result, lower LOD and LOQ values were achieved by the AgNP-HOCl method. The obtaining lower values was attributed to the reoxidation of silver atoms with ClO- ions in the presence of PVP. The newly modified method was applied to the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) measurement of Boswellia Serrata, Aronia Melanocarpa tea, and juice. The results were compared with the results...

Translocation of CdS nanoparticles in maize (Zea mays L.) plant and its effect on metabolic response
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 14:140189. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140189. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCadmium sulfide nanomaterials are of great concern because of their potential toxicity and unavoidable releases due to multiple commercial applications of nanoparticles (NPs). Commercial NPs act as mediators of damage to plant cells and pose potential toxicity to plants and human health. In the current study, investigated the phytotoxicology, absorption, translocation, antioxidant enzyme activity, and metabolic profiles of maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings exposed to different hydroponic treatments for fifteen days. The diffe...

Storage stability of chocolate can be enhanced using locust protein-based film incorporated with E. purpurea flower extract-based nanoparticles
Ultrason Sonochem. 2023 Sep 7;100:106594. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2023.106594. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe study aimed to develop a locust protein (Loct-Prot)-based film to enhance the lipid oxidative and storage stability of chocolate. The E. purpurea flower extract based-nanoparticles (EFNPs) were developed using ultrasonication (500 W and 20 kHz for 10 min) following a green method of synthesis. The EFPNs were incorporated at different levels [T0 (0%), T1 (1.0%), T2 (1.5%), and T3 (2.0%)] to impart bioactive properties to the Loct-Prot-based films which were used for packaging of white chocolate during 90 days tri...
