A neonate with aseptic cutaneous necrosis related to the migration of the proximal central venous catheter infusion port
We report a case of aseptic cutaneous necrosis from extravasation of calcium chloride at the proximal port of a central venous catheter (CVC). A right internal jugular CVC was placed with ultrasound guidance using contemporary guidelines for size and insertion site. Catheter migration occurred concurrent with development of postoperative anasarca. Four days later, leakage of infusate with skin necrosis was noted at the insertion site. Despite initial proper positioning, catheter ports can migrate out of intravascular structures due to postprocedural subcutaneous edema. Intravascular confirmation should be performed regular...

2023 American Heart Association Focused Update on the Management of Patients With Cardiac Arrest or Life-Threatening Toxicity Due to Poisoning: An Update to the American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care
Circulation. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1161/CIR.0000000000001161. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this focused update, the American Heart Association provides updated guidance for resuscitation of patients with cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, and refractory shock due to poisoning. Based on structured evidence reviews, guidelines are provided for the treatment of critical poisoning from benzodiazepines, β-adrenergic receptor antagonists (also known as β-blockers), L-type calcium channel antagonists (commonly called calcium channel blockers), cocaine, cyanide, digoxin and related cardiac glycosides, local anesthetics, meth...

A novel survival rat model of hyperkalemia and landiolol induced cardioplegic arrest and resuscitation via cardiopulmonary bypass
CONCLUSION: The establishment of cardioplegic arrest and resuscitation procedure via hyperkalemia and landiolol during CPB of WD rat could be achieved successfully. This animal model could be an alternative organ injury research on organ injury of patients undergoing cardiac surgery.PMID:37632272 | DOI:10.1177/02676591231199214

Extract of Chenopodium album lowers blood pressure in rats through endothelium-dependent and -independent vasorelaxation
CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that crude extract and fractions of C. album produced vasorelaxant effect through muscarinic receptors linked-NO pathway, prostaglandin and calcium antagonism which explain the blood pressure lowering effect of C. album.PMID:37572955 | DOI:10.1016/j.pharma.2023.08.003
