Dual promoted ciprofloxacin degradation by Fe < sup > 0 < /sup > /PS system with ascorbic acid and pre-magnetization
Chemosphere. 2023 Jun 16:139202. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139202. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs a widely used and hard-to-degrade pharmaceuticals and personal care product (PPCP), ciprofloxacin (CIP) was frequently found in water environment and the detected concentration was gradually increased. Although zero-valent iron (ZVI) has been shown to be effective in destroying refractory organic pollutants, the practical application and sustained catalytic performance is not satisfactory. Herein, introduction of ascorbic acid (AA) and employment of pre-magnetized Fe0 was achieved to maintain a high-concentration of Fe...

Sustainable application of nanoparticles in wastewater treatment: Fate, current trend & amp; paradigm shift
Environ Res. 2023 May 18:116071. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.116071. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExisting water and wastewater treatment techniques are becoming increasingly difficult to employ due to the discovery of new toxins, the rapid development of population and industrial activities, and the limited quantity of water resources. Treatment of wastewater is a critical need in modern civilization due to a scarcity of water resources and rising industrial activity. Some of the techniques utilized include adsorption, flocculation, filtration, and others, although they are only used for primary wastewater treatment. Howe...

Expanding Linker Dimensionality in Metal-Organic Frameworks for sub- Ångstrom Pore Control for Separation Applications
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Apr 17:e202304094. doi: 10.1002/anie.202304094. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of porous materials with high surface areas, which are acquiring rapid attention on an exponential basis. A significant characteristic of MOFs is their ability to act as adsorbents to selectively separate component mixtures of similar size, thereby addressing the technological need for an alternative approach to conventional distillation methods. Recently, MOFs comprising a 3-Dimensional (3D) linker have shown outstanding capabilities for difficult separations compared to th...

Morphology control through the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks
Adv Colloid Interface Sci. 2023 Feb 26;314:102864. doi: 10.1016/j.cis.2023.102864. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDesignable morphology and predictable properties are the most challenging goals in material engineering. Features such as shape, size, porosity, agglomeration ratio significantly affect the final properties of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and can be regulated throughout synthesis parameters but require a deep understanding of the mechanisms of MOFs formation. Herein, we systematically summarize the effects of the individual synthesis factors, such as pH of reaction mixture, including acidic or basic character...

Transcriptomic and physiological effects of polyethylene microplastics on Zea mays seedlings and their role as a vector for organic pollutants
In this study, the effects of two types of polyethylene MPs on Zea mays seedlings cultured in vitro were analysed. In addition, four organic pollutants (ibuprofen, simazine, sertraline, and amoxicillin) were adsorbed by the MPs to evaluate their capacity as other contaminant vectors. The development of the plants was negatively affected by MPs alone or with the organic compounds. The strongest effect was observed in the W-MPs treatments, with a reduction in leaf and root length near 70%. Chlorophyll content was also differentially affected depending on the treatment. Transcriptome analysis showed that MPs affected gene exp...

Aqueous micellar technology: an alternative beyond organic solvents
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Feb 8. doi: 10.1039/d3cc00127j. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSolvents are the major source of chemical waste from synthetic chemistry labs. Growing attention to more environmentally friendly sustainable processes demands novel technologies to substitute toxic or hazardous solvents. If not always, sometimes, water can be a suitable substitute for organic solvents, if used appropriately. However, the sole use of water as a solvent remains non-practical due to its incompatibility with organic reagents. Nonetheless, over the past few years, new additives have been disclosed to achieve chemistry in wat...

WO < sub > 3 < /sub > /rGO nanocomposite-based sensor for the detection and degradation of 4-Chlorophenol
Chemosphere. 2022 Nov 18:137302. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2022.137302. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChlorinated organic compounds are useful chemicals or intermediates that are used extensively in both industry and agriculture. The 4-chlorophenol (4CP) in low concentration poses a serious environmental problem and causes many health issues, including cancer and liver disease. In this work, we demonstrated the detection of 4CP at carbon paste electrodes modified using tungsten oxide (WO3) nanorods and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanoparticles. The significance of pH on the voltammetric response of 4CP was investigated, ...
