The Effects of High Deductible Health Plans on Breast Cancer Treatment and Reconstruction
CONCLUSION: The cost-sharing burden of HDHPs creates the potential for patients to forego care, and thus, effort should be directed toward increasing patient education concerning health plan benefits. Utilization of postdeductible spending, as well as resources of health savings accounts, may limit the adverse effects of HDHPs. This study also emphasizes the importance for providers to increase cost transparency.PMID:37709587 | DOI:10.1016/j.clbc.2023.08.006

Underutilization of Systemic Therapy in Patients With NSCLC Undergoing Pneumonectomy: A Missed Opportunity for Survival
CONCLUSIONS: A high proportion of patients who undergo pneumonectomy do not receive ST. Patient and socioeconomic factors are associated with the receipt of ST. Given its survival benefit, emphasis should be placed on multimodal treatment strategies, perhaps with greater consideration given to neoadjuvant approaches.PMID:37644968 | PMC:PMC10460993 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtocrr.2023.100547

Trends in and Prognostic Significance of Time to Treatment in Pancreatic Cancer: A Population-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: Delayed treatment approaching 2 months was observed in 10% of the population. The rising temporal trend in TTT may be attributed to the increasing shift toward neoadjuvant CT/RT in early-stage PDAC and/or the increasing use of tissue biopsy prior to surgery.PMID:37624518 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14221-9
