The current state of research and potential applications of insects for resource recovery and aquaculture feed
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Aug 9. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29068-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTConcerns about fishmeal use and its ecological footprints must be addressed for the aquaculture industry to move on as a sustainable food production sector. Through recent research outcomes, the insect-based meals in fish diets have promise and harnessed promises for commercial applications. In this midst, the efficiency of the selected insects in valorizing biological waste, as well as the nutritional profile of the harvested insects for use in fish diets, will be the driving forces behind such an approach. More extensiv...

Exploring increased hydraulic retention time as a cost-efficient way of valorizing residual biogas potential
Bioresour Technol. 2023 Aug 7:129646. doi: 10.1016/j.biortech.2023.129646. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEffective substrate utilization with low residual methane yield in the digestate is crucial for the economy and sustainability of biogas plants. The composition and residual methane potential of 29 digestate samples from plants operating at hydraulic retention times of 13-130 days were determined to evaluate the economic viability of extended digestion. Considerable contents of fermentable fractions, such as cellulose (8-23%), hemicellulose (1-18%), and protein (13-22%), were present in the digestate dry matter. The ult...

Spatial evolution of global petrochemical risk and the influence by industrialization
This study is aimed at quantitatively analyzing the current state of petrochemical risk and its impact on industrial development in 58 coastal countries (regions) worldwide by identifying petrochemical risk impact indicators and constructing threshold regression models. We showed that the global petrochemical risk has been unevenly decreasing in recent years. In some countries (regions), the petrochemical risk remains unchanged or is increasing; in particular, coastal provinces of China need to address this issue. Moreover, when industrialization and economic development levels are < 53.6 and 34,918.4 USD/person, respec...

Design and validation of high-density SNP array of goats and population stratification of Indian goat breeds
Gene. 2023 Aug 4:147691. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2023.147691. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGoats are the supporting pillars of rural economy contributing significantly to meat and milk production in India. It is a species targeted for fulfilling the interdependent goals of poverty reduction and creation of employment for supporting the rural income. The increased demand for goat products necessitates their genetic characterization and improvement to augment the production of native breeds. Bi-allelic, genome wide, densely placed single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers are most suitable for this purpose. This paper descri...
