Glycerol as a substrate for actinobacteria of biotechnological interest: Advantages and perspectives in circular economy systems
Chemosphere. 2021 Apr 7;279:130505. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2021.130505. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTActinobacteria represent a ubiquitous group of microorganisms widely distributed in ecosystems. They have diverse physiological and metabolic properties, including the production of extracellular enzymes and a variety of secondary bioactive metabolites, such as antibiotics, immunosuppressants, and other compounds of industrial interest. Therefore, actinobacteria have been used for biotechnological purposes for more than three decades. The development of a biotechnological process requires the evaluation of its cost/ben...

Impact of financial crisis on mental health: A literature review 'puzzling' findings from several countries
CONCLUSIONS: Despite the disagreements, the economic downturn and its outcomes can effect negatively the psychological state either of the population as a whole or of specific subgroups. Mental health is largely affected by economy and regulatory adjustments of supportive care services are needed to buffer negative effects. Primary care could be a 'remote access server' of specific interventions designed to target vulnerable population groups. The development of strategies at a country level is essential in order to support the most vulnerable groups of the population during a recession period.PMID:33876696 | DOI:10.1177/00207640211011205

The effect of mind-body exercise on the cervical spine mobility of people with neck discomfort: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis
This study aims to explore the effect of mind-body exercise intervention on the cervical spine mobility of people with neck discomfort through meta-analysis. Methods: This study's researchers will search a total of 5 research databases for data retrieval: China National Knowledge Infrastructure (from 1979), Web of Science (from 1950), PubMed (from 1965), Cochrane (from 1991), and EBSCO (from 1949) (Date of retrieval: March 10, 2021). Two authors will independently search literature records, scan titles, abstracts, and full texts, collect data, and assess materials for risk of bias. Stata14.0 software will be used fo...

The effect of exposure to long working hours on depression: A systematic review and meta-analysis from the WHO/ILO Joint Estimates of the Work-related Burden of Disease and Injury
CONCLUSIONS: We judged the existing bodies of evidence from human data as "inadequate evidence for harmfulness" for all three exposure categories, 41-48, 48-54 and ≥55 h/week, for depression prevalence, incidence and mortality; the available evidence is insufficient to assess effects of the exposure. Producing estimates of the burden of depression attributable to exposure to long working appears not evidence-based at this point. Instead, studies examining the association between long working hours and risk of depression are needed that address the limitations of the current evidence.PMID:34144478 | DOI:10.1016/j.envint.2021.106629

The Most Social of Maladies: Re-Thinking the History of Psychiatry From the Edges of Empire
Cult Med Psychiatry. 2021 Jun 24. doi: 10.1007/s11013-021-09723-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis paper argues that the colonial experience was never just "out there" but was a constitutive feature of the global development of psychiatry and, indeed, of social medicine itself. I show how regional knowledge about psychiatry, produced in scientific exchanges across colonial Southeast Asia over four decades and culminating with the 1937 Bandung Conference, became part of new international approaches to health care in rural areas, and later, in developing nations. In particular, I discuss how the embrace of the agricultura...

Phytotherapic Drugs For Covid19 Treatment: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSION: Altogether, the review presents the action mechanism of plant extracts rich in bioactive compounds and depicted potential antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2. These plant bioactive compounds can serve as lead molecules to develop phytomedicine, ensuring all safety regulations in the clinical trials to treat or prevent COVID19 viral infections.PMID:34225610 | DOI:10.2174/1381612827666210705163807
