Latino Adolescent-Mother Language Concordance, Neighborhood Deprivation, and Vaccinations in Community Health Centers
Conclusions: In a multistate analysis of vaccinations among Latino and non-Latino adolescents, English-preferring adolescents with Spanish- preferring mothers had the highest completion rates and English-preferring non-Hispanic white dyads had the lowest. Further research can seek to understand why this language dyad may have an advantage in adolescent vaccination completion.PMID:36976843 | DOI:10.1370/afm.21.s1.3815

Effectiveness and durability of BNT162b2 vaccine against hospital and emergency department admissions due to SARS-CoV-2 omicron sub-lineages BA.1 and BA.2 in a large health system in the USA: a test-negative, case-control study
This study is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04848584, and is ongoing.FINDINGS: Of 65 813 total admissions during the study period, we included 16 994 in our analyses, of which 7435 were due to BA.1, 1056 were due to BA.2, and 8503 were not due to SARS-CoV-2. In adjusted analyses, two-dose vaccine effectiveness was 40% (95% CI 27 to 50) for hospitalisation and 29% (18 to 38) for emergency department admission against BA.1 and 56% (31 to 72) for hospitalisation and 16% (-5 to 33) for emergency department admission against BA.2. Three-dose vaccine effectiveness was 79% (74 to 83) for hospitalisation and 72% (67 to 77) ...

Primary Care Professionals' Attitudes Towards Vaccination Recommendation for Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease
CONCLUSIONS: There is room for improvement of vaccination recommendations by PCPs. Promoting continuing education and use of clinical tools may help support PCP immunization practices for patients with IBD.PMID:35779060 | DOI:10.1093/ibd/izac129

Exploring electronic health records to estimate the extent of catch-up immunisation and factors associated with under-immunisation among refugees and asylum seekers in south east Queensland
CONCLUSION: This study indicates that the broader group of immigrants, and in particular refugees and asylum seekers, do not represent a homogenous group in terms of immunisation coverage, and that each cohort should be carefully considered during immunisation interventions and strategies. This will be particularly important during targeted health promotions and future immunisation programs in this cohort.PMID:34556368 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.09.026

DrugWAS: Drug-wide association studies for COVID-19 drug repurposing
In conclusion, this cohort study leveraged EHR data to identify a list of drugs that could be repurposed to improve COVID-19 outcomes. Further randomized clinical trials are needed to investigate the efficacy of the proposed drugs.PMID:34314511 | DOI:10.1002/cpt.2376

The impact of childhood pneumococcal conjugate vaccine immunisation on all-cause pneumonia admissions in Hong Kong: A 14-year population-based interrupted time series analysis
Vaccine. 2021 Apr 12:S0264-410X(21)00406-0. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.03.090. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Nine years after the introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) in the United States, Hong Kong (HK) introduced the vaccine to its universal childhood immunisation programme in 2009. We aimed to assess the impact of childhood PCV immunisation on all-cause pneumonia (ACP) admissions among the overall population of HK.METHODS: In this population-based interrupted time series analysis, we used territory-wide population-representative electronic health records in HK to evaluate the vaccine impact....

The impact of the implementation of a clinical decision support system on the quality of healthcare services in a primary care setting
DISCUSSION: The electronic health record with CDS led to significantly improved uptake of immunizations and screening tests, with earlier diagnoses of breast and colon cancer. Evidence of improvement in chronic disease outcomes is still lacking.PMID:33681044 | PMC:PMC7928113 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1728_20

Communicating Benefits from Vaccines Beyond Preventing Infectious Diseases
AbstractDespite immunisation being one of the greatest medical success stories of the twentieth century, there is a growing lack of confidence in some vaccines. Improving communication about the direct benefits of vaccination as well as its benefits beyond preventing infectious diseases may help regain this lost confidence. A conference was organised at the Fondation Merieux in France to discuss what benefits could be communicated and how innovative digital initiatives can used for communication. During this meeting, a wide range of indirect benefits of vaccination were discussed. For example, influenza vaccination can red...
