The association of maternal gestational hyperglycemia with breastfeeding duration and markers of milk production
CONCLUSIONS: Women with FPG ≥5.1 mmol/L during pregnancy breastfeed for a shorter duration. Future work involving measurement of milk production is needed to determine whether low milk production predicts breastfeeding duration among women with elevated FPG. This trial was registered at www.clinicaltrials.gov as NCT01174875.PMID:33963740 | DOI:10.1093/ajcn/nqab142

Transition from Breastfeeding and Complementary Feeding to Toddler Nutrition in Child Care Settings.
Authors: Ritchie LD, Lee DL, Vitale EH, Au LE Abstract Child care has broad reach to young children. Yet, not all child care settings have nutrition standards for what and how foods and beverages should be served to infants as they transition to toddlerhood. The purpose of this paper is to describe the development of nutrition recommendations to guide feeding young children in licensed child care settings in the USA, a process that could be adapted in other countries. Nutrition standards were designed by nutrition and child care experts to address what and how to feed young children, also including the transition f...

Recurrent Severe Subclinical Mastitis and the Risk of HIV Transmission Through Breastfeeding
Subclinical mastitis (SCM) is an important risk factor of postnatal HIV-1 transmission that is still poorly understood. A longitudinal sub-study of the ANRS12174 trial including 270 breastfeeding mothers in Lusaka, Zambia measured sodium (Na+) and potassium (K+) in archived paired breast milk samples collected at week 14, 26 and 38 postpartum to determine cumulative incidence of SCM and the effects of recurrent severe SCM on HIV-1 shedding in breast milk. A nested retrospective cohort study including 112 mothers was also done to determine longitudinal effects of SCM on four pro-inflammatory cytokines; IL6, IL8, IP10 and RA...

Gestational and Breastfeeding Low-Protein Intake on Blood Pressure, Kidney Structure, and Renal Function in Male Rat Offspring in Adulthood
Conclusion: To our knowledge, these are the first data demonstrating renal functional and structural changes in protein restriction during gestation and lactation model of fetal programming. The fetal-programmed adult offspring showed pronounced structural glomerular disorders with an accentuated and advanced fibrosis stage, without a change in the GFR. These findings suggest that the glomerular enhanced TGF-β1 action may induce ZEB1/2 expression that may cause glomeruli epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. Besides, decreased nephron number in the LP offspring with preserved glomerular function may be related to protecti...

Intensity-dependent mass search for improving metabolite database matches in chemical isotope labeling LC-QTOF-MS-based metabolomics
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Sep 1;1272:341467. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341467. Epub 2023 Jun 1.ABSTRACTLiquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) has been increasingly used for metabolome analysis. One of the critical steps in the LC-MS metabolome analysis workflow is related to metabolite identification. Among the measured parameters, peak mass is commonly used to search against a database for potential metabolite matches. Higher accuracy mass measurement allows the use of a narrower mass tolerance window for mass search. While various types of mass analyzers can routinely measure a peak mass with an error of less than a fe...
