The efficacy comparison of citalopram, fluoxetine, and placebo on motor recovery after ischemic stroke: a double-blind placebo-controlled randomized controlled trial.
CONCLUSION: There was no significant difference between citalopram and fluoxetine in facilitating post-stroke motor recovery in ischemic stroke patients. However, compared with a placebo, both drugs improved post-stroke motor function. PMID: 29783900 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Five-day course of paired associative stimulation fails to improve motor function in stroke patients
Conclusion We failed to induce a lasting effect with PAS in the present study. PAS does not seem to be the main method for post-stroke brain stimulation. Perhaps recruitment of patients could be more selective, possibly targeting those with a wide altered ipsilesional corticomotor pathway.

Effectiveness of Circuit-Based Exercises on Gait Speed, Balance,  and Functional Mobility in People Affected by Stroke: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusion Our results demonstrated that circuit-based exercise presents better effects on gait when compared with conventional intervention and that its effects on balance and functional mobility were not better than conventional interventions. Level of Evidence To be determined.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis on the Use of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Spasticity Post Stroke

Exploring functional outcomes and allied health staffing levels in an inpatient paediatric rehabilitation unit.
CONCLUSIONS: This review from a tertiary hospital-based inpatient paediatric rehabilitation service provides information regarding the length of stay, functional change and allied health workload for children and adolescents on active inpatient rehabilitation programs. As expected, total and rehabilitation episode length of stay, functional improvement and allied health contact and input varied according to diagnostic groups. Effect of isokinetic hip flexors strength training on walking in persons with subacute stroke: Feasibility study
Discussion – conclusion These early results seem to indicate a beneficial effect of isokinetic hip flexors strengthening protocol in subacute stroke gait rehabilitation. Those results must be confirmed in further studies.

Postural and gait disorders in subacute stroke patients: Lateropulsion is the key
Discussion – conclusion Lateropulsion, which is a sign of biased representation of the vertical, is a primary cause of postural and gait disorders at the subacute phase after right hemisphere stroke, explaining almost 80% of balance and gait disabilities. A greater attention should be focused on the assessment and the rehabilitation of the post-stroke lateropulsion.

Clinician perspectives on cross-education in stroke rehabilitation.
CONCLUSIONS: Cross-education is paradoxical yet promising was the primary theme. This theme was elucidated by three descriptive categories: (1) therapists worked in a forced-use paradigm; (2) there was gap in current practice for those with more severe impairments in arm function; and (3) cross-education used as an adjunct could be useful within current practice for specific patients.
