IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 190: Functional MRI (fMRI) Evaluation of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Efficacy in Chronic Cerebral Stroke: A Small Retrospective Consecutive Case Series
Conclusions: These changes were consistent with the clinical improvement in all Pts, suggesting a possible role of fMRI in revealing neuronal functional correlates of neuronal plasticity and HBOT-related neoangiogenesis. Although only four Pts were examined, fMRI proved to be a sensitive, non-invasive and reliable modality for monitoring neuronal functional changes before and after HBOT.

Acute Ischemic Stroke in a Young Woman With No Known Risk Factors.
CONCLUSION: Onset of neurologic symptoms can be immediate or delayed in patients undergoing venous foam sclerotherapy. Early recognition of neurologic deficits resulting from paradoxical gas embolism and its treatment with hyperbaric oxygen can prevent permanent disability. PMID: 29677415 [PubMed - in process]

An Unusual Cause of Altered Mental Status: Recurrent Cerebral Air Embolism from Atrial-Esophageal Fistula (P2.119)
Conclusion:The incidence of stroke secondary to air emboli is rare but a known complication of AEF's. Review of literature showed no reports of recurrent air embolism following successful treatment with HBO and repair of AEF. It is important to consider air embolism in any patient with a history of AEF, regardless of prior treatment.Disclosure: Dr. Ahmed has nothing to disclose. Dr. Myers has nothing to disclose. Current treatment of central retinal artery occlusion: a national survey
ConclusionsThis survey shows that there is significant variability in treatment practices for acute CRAO in the US. Because of the high cerebrovascular and cardiovascular risk reported in this population of patients, it is notable that the approach to risk factor screening is also highly variable and many programs do not routinely refer patients to an emergency department for urgent evaluation. Finally, there appears to be equipoise among treatment teams regarding the efficacy of systemic fibrinolysis, as 53% of programs report a willingness to treat at least some patients with this modality.

Acute spontaneous spinal cord infarction: Utilisation of hyperbaric oxygen treatment, cerebrospinal fluid drainage and pentoxifylline.
CONCLUSIONS: SCI can be severely disabling. Triple therapy with pentoxifylline, CSF drainage and HBOT may reduce disability and further prospective trials are required. PMID: 33325011 [PubMed - in process]

Case report: Bilateral sudden deafness in acute middle cerebellar peduncle infarction: central or peripheral?
CONCLUSION: Vertebrobasilar diseases due to atherosclerosis should be routinely considered in middle-aged and elderly patients with vascular risk factors and bilateral hearing loss. Bilateral SSNHL can be a prodrome of acute MCP infarction and it can be peripheral. Brain MRI, brain magnetic resonance angiogram (MRA), brain and neck computed tomography angiography (CTA), BAEP, otoacoustic emissions, and Pure Tone Audiogram help to localize and qualify the diagnosis. Bilateral SSNHL localized to the periphery usually improves better and has a good prognosis. Early detection of hearing loss and intervention can help patients ...
