The estimated frequency of antiphospholipid antibodies in young adults with cerebrovascular events: a systematic review
Background Around 10% of all thrombotic cerebrovascular events (CVE) occur in young population and in a large proportion of those the trigger remains undetermined. Antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) are recognised risk factors for ischaemic stroke and recurrent thrombotic events; however, the frequency of aPL in young people with CVE is still an unresolved issue. Objectives To estimate the frequency of aPL in young adults with CVE and to determine whether aPL-positive young individuals are at greater risk of CVE when compared with individuals without aPL by systematically reviewing the literature. Methods Medline reports ...

Increased risk of cardiovascular disease in giant cell arteritis: a general population-based study
Conclusion. These findings provide general population–based evidence that GCA patients are at a substantially increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Increased monitoring for this potentially fatal outcome and its modifiable risk factors is warranted for GCA patients.

Hyperuricemia in systemic lupus erythematosus: is it associated with the neuropsychiatric manifestations of the disease?
Conclusions: Hyperuricemia in SLE patients is independently associated with the occurrence of stroke and peripheral neuropathy. It is also independently associated with hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and history of arterial thrombosis, which are the major stroke and myocardial infarction risk factors in SLE patients.RESUMO Objetivos: Avaliar a associa ção entre a hiperuricemia e diferentes manifestações neuropsiquiátricas e os fatores de risco para AVE em pacientes com lúpus eritematoso sistêmico (LES). Métodos: Este estudo foi feito em 204 pacientes com LES que foram internados em um centro de referência de atenç...

High Incidence of Arterial and Venous Thrombosis in Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody-associated Vasculitis.
CONCLUSION: Patients with AAV have a high incidence of arterial and venous thrombosis, particularly in the first year after diagnosis. PMID: 30385704 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Autoantibodies to Annexin A2 and cerebral thrombosis: Insights from a mouse model.
CONCLUSIONS: This study supports the hypothesis that auto-antibodies to ANXA2 are an independent risk factor for cerebral thrombosis. Consequently, we propose screening for anti-ANXA2 antibodies should be more widely used and patients that exhibit the manifestations of APS should be closely monitored by physicians. Antiphospholipid syndrome-mediated acute cerebrovascular diseases and long-term outcomes
CONCLUSION: We found no differences between stroke subtypes and APS types. aPL profiles were not associated with any of the acute cerebrovascular diseases described in this cohort. CVT may be an initial thrombotic manifestation of APS with low mortality and good long-term functional outcome.PMID:35042376 | DOI:10.1177/09612033221074178

Rheumatoid arthritis and the risk of major cardiometabolic diseases: a Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSION: Genetically determined RA was associated with increased risks of T2D and CAD, suggesting that RA plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of T2D and CAD.PMID:35658786 | DOI:10.1080/03009742.2022.2070988

Hydroxychloroquine exposure reduces the risk of cardiovasular disease events in patients with hypertension or diabetes mellitus
CONCLUSIONS: HCQ has protective effect on CVD events, including both AMI and ischaemic stroke in the patients with traditional risk factors. The protective effect of HCQ on CVD events is prominent in older patients.PMID:37246776 | DOI:10.55563/clinexprheumatol/y7psev
