Risk of Stroke and Bleeding in Atrial Fibrillation Treated with Apixaban Compared with Warfarin
ConclusionIn NVAF patients of all ages initiating either apixaban or warfarin for stroke prevention in the Sentinel System, apixaban was associated with a decreased risk of GI bleeding, ICH, and ischemic stroke compared with warfarin. Among patients less than 65  years of age, apixaban use was associated with a decreased risk of GI bleeding and ischemic stroke.

Development and validation of a 2-year new-onset stroke risk prediction model for people over age 45 in China
Multiple factors, including increasing incidence, poor knowledge of stroke and lack of effective, noninvasive and convenient stroke risk prediction tools, make it more difficult for precautions against stroke in China. Effective prediction models for stroke may assist to establish better risk awareness and management, healthier lifestyle, and lower stroke incidence for people. The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey was the development cohort. Logistic regression was applied to model's development, in which the candidate variables with statistically significant coefficient were included in the prediction model...

Effect of thrombolysis in a mobile stroke unit versus in hospital for patients with ischemic stroke: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Introduction: Ischemic stroke caused by arterial occlusion is the cause of most strokes. The focus of treatment is rapid reperfusion through intravenous thrombolysis and intravascular thrombectomy. Two acute stroke management including prehospital thrombolysis and in hospital have been widely used clinically to treat ischemic stroke with satisfied efficacy. However, there is no systematic review comparing the effectiveness of these 2 therapies. The aim of this study is to compare the effect of prehospital thrombolysis versus in hospital for patients with ischemic stroke. Methods and analysis: The following elect...

Effects of autophagy inhibitor 3-Methyladenine on ischemic stroke: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis
Discussion: This systematic review and meta-analysis of the autophagy inhibitor 3-MAs effects on animal models of ischemic stroke can help us to understand whether inhibiting autophagy brings protection or damage to IP neurons; in addition, it also helps to clarify the specific role of autophagy in cerebral infarction. Therefore, this study can provide evidence for the future development of therapy strategies targeting autophagy and bring more hope to patients with ischemic stroke. Stroke mimics: incidence, aetiology, clinical features and treatment
Ann Med. 2021 Dec;53(1):420-436. doi: 10.1080/07853890.2021.1890205.ABSTRACTMimics account for almost half of hospital admissions for suspected stroke. Stroke mimics may present as a functional (conversion) disorder or may be part of the symptomatology of a neurological or medical disorder. While many underlying conditions can be recognized rapidly by careful assessment, a significant proportion of patients unfortunately still receive thrombolysis and admission to a high-intensity stroke unit with inherent risks and unnecessary costs. Accurate diagnosis is important as recurrent presentations may be common in many disorder...

Verification and comparison of three prediction models of ischemic stroke in young adults based on the back propagation neural networks
This work aims to explore risk factors for ischemic stroke in young adults and analyze the Traditional Vascular Risk Factors Model based on age, hypertension, diabetes, smoking history, and drinking history. Further, the Lipid Metabolism Model was analyzed based on lipoprotein a [LP (a)], high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), apolipoprotein AI (apo AI), apolipoprotein B (apo B), and the Early Renal Injury Model based on urinary microalbuminuria/creatinine ratio (UACR). Besides, we estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), cystatin C (Cys-C), homocysteine (Hcy), β2 microglobulin (β2m), and vali...

Oral anticoagulants vs antiplatelets in cryptogenic stroke with potential cardiac emboli: Meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: OACs compared with antiplatelet therapies were associated with a reduced recurrent ischemic stroke risk and OACs might be a viable non-procedural alternative in patients with cryptogenic stroke and potential cardiac emboli.PMID:34419310 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2021.08.002

Correlation of Serum Albumin Level with Short Term Outcome of Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients
ConclusionHypoalbuminemia had influence to degree of stroke severity, degree of disability and functional outcome. Serum albumin levels had a negatively correlation with NIHSS score and modified Rankin scale. Low serum albumin levels associated with poor prognosis in acute ischemic stroke patients.
