IL-38 as an early predictor of the ischemic stroke prognosis
CONCLUSION: The results indicate that tPA could meaningfully increase the IL-38 serum level. Also, a negative correlation has been found between IL-38 serum changes in response to tPA and mRS. Since the lower changes in IL-38 serum level result in a poorer prognosis, we conclude that IL-38 serum changes might be a novel early predictor factor for ischemic stroke prognosis.PMID:34157522 | DOI:10.1016/j.cyto.2021.155626

Admission Hydration Status and Ischemic Stroke Outcome-Experience from a National Registry of Hospitalized Stroke Patients
J Clin Med. 2021 Jul 26;10(15):3292. doi: 10.3390/jcm10153292.ABSTRACTReduced intravascular volume upon ischemic stroke (IS) admission has been associated with in-hospital complications, disability, and reduced survival. We aimed to evaluate the association of the urea-to-creatinine ratio (UCR) with disability or death at discharge, length of stay, in-hospital complications, and mortality during the first year. Using a national registry, we identified hospitalized IS patients without renal failure. Disability or death at discharge, length of stay, in-hospital complications, and mortality during the first year were studied ...

Oridonin prevents oxidative stress-induced endothelial injury via promoting Nrf-2 pathway in ischaemic stroke
J Cell Mol Med. 2021 Sep 12. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.16923. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOridonin, a natural diterpenoid compound extracted from a Chinese herb, has been proved to exert anti-oxidative stress effects in various disease models. The aim of the present study was to investigate the protective effects of oridonin on oxidative stress-induced endothelial injury in ischaemic stroke. We found oridonin repaired blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity presented with upregulation of tight junction proteins (TJ proteins) expression, inhibited the infiltration of periphery inflammatory cells and neuroinflammation and thereby redu...

Protective multi ‑target effects of DL‑3‑n‑butylphthalide combined with 3‑methyl‑1‑phenyl‑2‑pyrazolin‑5‑one in mice with ischemic stroke
In conclusion, the results of the present study demonstrated that NBP and edaravone effectively prevented ischemic stroke damage with multi‑target protective effects. In addition, NBP + edaravone may be a promising combination therapy for ischemic stroke.PMID:34643246 | DOI:10.3892/mmr.2021.12490

Common genetic variants on chromosome 9p21 confers risk of ischemic stroke: A large-scale genetic association study
The objective of this experiment was to observe the allele frequency and genotype distribution of some 9p21 SNPs in the Anhui Han population, and to study its relationship with the susceptibility to ischemic stroke. For this purpose, a collection of 992 patients with ischemic stroke confirmed and hospitalized in our hospital from October 2017 to October 2020 were used as the IS case group, and 951 normal people who had a healthy physical examination in the physical examination center of our hospital during the same period were selected as the control group. After informed consent, cubital venous blood of all subjects was c...
