Association of Cognitive Function Screening Results with Adherence and Performance in a Pedometer-Based Intervention
CONCLUSION: Participants with worse results on cognitive function screening had worse adherence and derived less benefit from this pedometer-based intervention. Future exercise interventions should be developed incorporating methods to address cognitive impairment, for example, by including caregivers when planning such interventions.PMID:33979802 | DOI:10.1159/000516130

Efficacy and Safety of Mineralocorticoid Receptor Antagonists in Kidney Failure Patients Treated with Dialysis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis suggests that mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists might improve clinical outcomes of patients with kidney failure without significant increase in the risk of hyperkalemia.PMID:34117083 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.15841020

An unusual neurological syndrome in a haemodialysis patient
Nisha Jose, V Jayaprakash, A Deiva, M JayakumarIndian Journal of Nephrology 2021 31(3):293-295 Advanced age and immunosuppressed states allow for complications of herpes zoster such as encephalitis. In this case report, we describe a patient with encephalopathy two days after initiation of antiviral therapy. After the necessary imaging and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis, it became evident that the neurological syndrome was due to acyclovir. Despite currently practised renal dose modification, the patient developed acyclovir-induced neurotoxicity and required intensification of his dialysis schedule to eliminate the dr...

Efficacy and Cardiovascular Safety of Roxadustat for Treatment of Anemia in Patients with Non-Dialysis-Dependent CKD: Pooled Results of Three Randomized Clinical Trials
CONCLUSIONS: Roxadustat was more effective than placebo at increasing hemoglobin in patients with non-dialysis-dependent CKD and anemia, while decreasing transfusion rate and being noninferior to placebo with respect to risk of MACE.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRY NAME AND REGISTRATION NUMBER: A Study of FG-4592 for the Treatment of Anemia in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients Not Receiving Dialysis, NCT01750190; Roxadustat in the Treatment of Anemia in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients Not Requiring Dialysis (ALPS), NCT01887600; Safety and Efficacy Study of Roxadustat to Treat Anemia in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Not ...

Major Adverse Renal and Cardiovascular Events following Intra-Arterial Contrast Media Administration in Hospitalized Patients with Comorbid Conditions
Conclusion: Intra-arterial administration using IOCM in at-risk patients is associated with lower rates of MARCE than the use of LOCM. This difference is especially apparent in patients with a combination of CKD 3 –4 and diabetes and in patients with CTO, providing real-world data validation with meaningful NNT in favor of IOCM.Cardiorenal Med
