Alteplase versus tenecteplase for thrombolysis after ischaemic stroke (ATTEST): a phase 2, randomised, open-label, blinded endpoint study
This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT01472926. Findings Between Jan 1, 2012, and Sept 7, 2013, 355 patients were screened, of whom 157 were eligible for intravenous thrombolysis, and 104 patients were enrolled. 52 were assigned to the alteplase group and 52 to tenecteplase. Of 71 patients (35 assigned tenecteplase and 36 assigned alteplase) contributing to the primary endpoint, no significant differences were noted for percentage of penumbral salvaged (68% [SD 28] for the tenecteplase group vs 68% [23] for the alteplase group; mean difference 1·3% [95% CI −9·6 to 12·1]; p=0·81). Neither incide...

Google joins $21m Series A for Viz.ai
Artificial Intelligence healthcare developer Viz.ai has raised $21 million in a Series A funding round joined by GV, formerly known as Google Ventures. The round was led by Kleiner Perkins, the San Francisco-based company said. In connection with the funding round, Kleiner Perkins general partner Mamoon Hamid will join the company’s board of directors. “We were attracted not only to the technology behind Viz.ai and its impact on patient outcomes, but also its adoption model. Cardiac and Hemodynamic Benefits: Mode of Action of Ivabradine in Heart Failure
Abstract Heart failure has seen a number of therapeutic advances in recent years. Despite this, heart failure is still related to increasing rates of morbidity, repeated hospitalizations, and mortality. Ivabradine is a recent treatment option for heart failure. It has a mode of action that includes reduction in heart rate, and leads to improvement in outcomes related to heart failure mortality and morbidity, as demonstrated by the results of the SHIFT trial in patients with systolic heart failure, functional classes II and III on the New York Heart Association classification, and left ventricular ejection fractio...

Cardiovascular event rates and mortality according to achieved systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients with stable coronary artery disease: an international cohort study
Publication date: Available online 30 August 2016 Source:The Lancet Author(s): Emmanuelle Vidal-Petiot, Ian Ford, Nicola Greenlaw, Roberto Ferrari, Kim M Fox, Jean-Claude Tardif, Michal Tendera, Luigi Tavazzi, Deepak L Bhatt, Philippe Gabriel Steg Background The optimum blood pressure target in hypertension remains debated, especially in coronary artery disease, given concerns for reduced myocardial perfusion if diastolic blood pressure is too low. We aimed to study the association between achieved blood pressure and cardiovascular outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease and hypertension. Methods We analysed dat...

Effects of Normothermic Machine Perfusion Conditions on Mesenchymal Stromal Cells
In this study the effect of NMP perfusion fluid on survival, metabolism and function of thawed cryopreserved human (h)MSC and porcine (p)MSC in suspension conditions was studied. Suspension conditions reduced the viability of pMSC by 40% in both perfusion fluid and culture medium. Viability of hMSC was reduced by suspension conditions by 15% in perfusion fluid, whilst no differences were found in survival in culture medium. Under adherent conditions, survival of the cells was not affected by perfusion fluid. The perfusion fluid did not affect survival of fresh MSC in suspension compared to the control culture medium. The f...
