Cardiac Tamponade Secondary to Hemorrhagic Pericardial Effusion: A Complication of STEMI
Conclusion: The differential for hemodynamic compromise in a patient with STEMI is broad, but quickly distinguishing pump failure from other life-threatening causes of shock is imperative to dictate time-sensitive management decisions. The presence of a hemorrhagic pericardial effusion in the setting of STEMI is a surrogate marker for a severe infarct and can help the bedside physician determine whether a patient will be better served in the catheterization lab for revascularization or in the operating room for surgical repair.PMID:37711482 | PMC:PMC10498953 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0023

Budd-Chiari Syndrome following COVID-19 infection: a case report
CONCLUSION: Hepatosplenomegaly and abdominal distention after COVID-19 infection raise suspicion for BCS. Therefore, early detection of these signs is essential for immediate management.PMID:37663747 | PMC:PMC10473364 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001078

Abdominal Imaging Findings in Laboratory-Confirmed COVID-19 Patients: A Retrospective Observational Study
CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, the research conducted on the abdominal manifestations of COVID-19 is still limited, especially in our region. Our study showed that there are variable presentations of abdominal organ involvement in COVID-19 cases, and as such more data is required to direct choice of imaging study, protocol, and interpretation of findings to better guide patient management.PMID:37649952 | PMC:PMC10463944 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.42677

Accidental insertion of double-J in the inferior vena cava in a patient with retroperitoneal fibrosis: a case report
CONCLUSIONS: Situations such as this require caution during the implantation of the drainage device, with the occurrence of resistance indicating the need to discontinue the procedure and perform a new assessment with imaging exams. No intraoperative or postoperative complications occurred and the patient is currently in outpatient follow-up.PMID:37492792 | PMC:PMC10364004 | DOI:10.21037/acr-22-93

Comparing severe COVID-19 outcomes of first and second/third waves: a prospective single-centre cohort study of health-related quality of life and pulmonary outcomes 6 months after infection
Conclusions This study indicates that even though intensive care treatment strategies have changed with time, there are few differences in long-term HRQL and respiratory health seems to remain at 6 months for patients surviving critical COVID-19 in the first and second/third waves of the pandemic.

Corticosteroid-Associated Avascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head in Patients with Severe COVID-19: A Single-Center Study
CONCLUSIONS The data from this study corroborate earlier studies and case reports, suggesting an increased occurrence of AVN of the femoral head during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the high-dose corticosteroid therapy employed for patients hospitalized with severe COVID-19 pneumonia.PMID:37431094 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940965
