Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on a Regional Stroke Thrombectomy Service in the United Kingdom
Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the stroke admission numbers but not stroke thrombectomy rate, successful recanalization rate, or early neurological outcome. Internal delays actually improved during the COVID-19 pandemic. Further studies should examine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on longer term outcome.Cerebrovasc Dis

IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 9464: The Impact of the Pandemic on Acute Ischaemic Stroke Endovascular Treatment from a Multidisciplinary Perspective: A Nonsystematic Review
Conclusions: Adequate management of AIS patients requiring mechanical thrombectomy during the pandemic is of paramount importance to maximise the benefit of the endovascular procedure. MDT work and familiarity with NORA principles decrease the negative impact of the disease on the clinical outcomes for AIS patients.

Anesthetic Management of Endovascular Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke During COVID-19 Pandemic: Consensus Statement From Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology & Critical Care (SNACC): Endorsed by Society of Vascular & Interventional Neurology (SVIN), Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS), Neurocritical Care Society (NCS), European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy (ESMINT) and American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Cerebrovascular Section
The pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has unique implications for the anesthetic management of endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke. The Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care appointed a task force to provide timely, consensus-based expert recommendations using available evidence for the safe and effective anesthetic management of endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke during the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of this consensus statement is to provide recommendations for anesthetic management considering the following (and they are): (1) optimal neurological outcomes for ...

Management of Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke During the COVID-19 Pandemic at a Single Institution in Beijing, China: A Brief Report
Background: The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is currently a major challenge for health care systems around the world. For a time-sensitive emergency such as acute ischemic stroke (AIS), streamlined workflow times are essential to ensure good clinical outcomes. Methods: The aim of this single-center, retrospective, observational study was to describe changes in stroke workflow patterns and clinical care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data from AIS patients undergoing emergent endovascular treatment (EVT) between 23 January and 8 April 2020 were retrospectively collected and compared with data from patie...

Anesthetic Management for Endovascular Treatment of Stroke in Patients With Coronavirus Disease 2019: A Case Series
A significant number of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 develop strokes with large vessel obstructions that may require endovascular treatment for revascularization. Our series focuses on periprocedural issues and the anesthetic management of these patients. We analyzed medical records of 5 patients with positive reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction tests for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 during their hospitalization who underwent endovascular treatment at our hospital between March and mid-June 2020. We found that our patients were different from the typical patients with ischemic strok...

Ischemic Stroke Due to Heparin-induced Thrombocytopenia During Severe COVID-19 Infection
Intern Med. 2022 Jul 5. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.9531-22. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 53-year-old woman with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia was admitted and treated with intravenous unfractionated heparin for thromboprophylaxis under general anesthesia with mechanical ventilation. She developed right hemiparesis after hospitalization due to a large hemorrhagic infarction. Her platelet count decreased from 243,000/μL at administration to 121,000/μL. Anti-platelet factor 4-heparin antibody testing was positive according to a latex immunoturbidimetric assay. She was therefore diagnosed with he...

Neuroanesthesia Practice During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Recommendations From Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC)
The pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has several implications relevant to neuroanesthesiologists, including neurological manifestations of the disease, impact of anesthesia provision for specific neurosurgical procedures and electroconvulsive therapy, and health care provider wellness. The Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care appointed a task force to provide timely, consensus-based expert guidance for neuroanesthesiologists during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this document is to provide a focused overview of COVID-19 disease relevant to neuroanesthesia practice. This consensus s...

Torsades de Pointes in Coronavirus Disease 2019 Infection
A 73-YEAR-OLD MAN (weight 69 kg, height 175 cm) was transferred to the authors ’ critical care unit with respiratory and acute renal failure secondary to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. His past medical history included hypertension, diabetes, and previous stroke, from which he had made a full recovery. The patient was treated with mechanical ventilation and p eritoneal dialysis. He was recruited into the hydroxychloroquine arm of the RECOVERY (Randomised Evaluation of COVID-19 Therapy) trial.
