Trends in mortality following mechanical thrombectomy for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke in the USA
Conclusions Utilization of MT represents a small percentage of stroke cases, although the trend is increasing. Mortality following MT has been showing a steady decline over the past 5 years. This may be a result of a learning curve, improved patient selection, and/or device improvements. Randomized trials remain essential to evaluate the potential benefit of endovascular devices and identify the most appropriate patients.

Optimal thresholds to predict long-term outcome after complete endovascular recanalization in acute anterior ischemic stroke
Conclusions After complete recanalization in acute anterior circulation ischemic stroke, a good long-term outcome could be accurately predicted reaching NIHSS score ≤5 after 24 hours.

P040/41 Imaging study in stroke diagnosis and treatment in a referral center Chile
ConclusionAs a conclusion, different topics of obtaining and observing images in Stroke are obtained. Either CT, MRA, Cerebral Angiography. Both nurses and technicians should know some generalities and topics of nomenclature, neuroanatomy, general and specific characteristics of each of the imaging techniques that we want to share for this ETMINT 2023 seminar.Disclosure of InterestNothing to disclose

Transcranial direct current stimulation facilitates motor learning post-stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is an attractive protocol for stroke motor recovery. The current systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the effects of tDCS on motor learning post-stroke. Specifically, we determined long-term learning effects by examining motor improvements from baseline to at least 5 days after tDCS intervention and motor practise. 17 studies reported long-term retention testing (mean retention interval=43.8 days; SD=56.6 days) and qualified for inclusion in our meta-analysis. Assessing primary outcome measures for groups that received tDCS and motor practise versus ...

Automated detection of arterial landmarks and vascular occlusions in patients with acute stroke receiving digital subtraction angiography using deep learning
Conclusion These results may serve as an unbiased standard for clinical stroke trials, as optimal standardization would be useful for core laboratories in endovascular thrombectomy studies, and also expedite decision-making during DSA-based procedures.

Preprocedural determination of an occlusion pathomechanism in endovascular treatment of acute stroke: a machine learning-based decision
Conclusions An ML-PM could accurately determine an occlusion pathomechanism with common preprocedural findings. A decision flowchart consisting of the four most influential findings was clinically applicable and superior to single common preprocedural findings for determining an occlusion pathomechanism.

Brain volume loss precedes cognitive decline in the first year after ischaemic stroke
Conclusions Brain volume loss precedes cognitive decline in the first year after ischaemic stroke. Tracking brain volume after stroke is important because brain volume is predictive of cognitive decline and atrophy is a hallmark of dementia.

Preliminary development of a prediction model for daily stroke occurrences based on meteorological and calendar information using deep learning framework (Prediction One; Sony Network Communications Inc., Japan).
Conclusion: Our preliminary results suggested a probability of the DL-based prediction models for stroke occurrence only by meteorological and calendar factors. In the future, by synchronizing a variety of medical information among the electronic medical records and personal smartphones as well as integrating the physical activities or meteorological conditions in real time, the prediction of stroke occurrence could be performed with high accuracy, to save medical resources, to have patients care for themselves, and to perform efficient medicine. Predicting ischemic stroke after carotid artery stenting based on proximal calcification and the jellyfish sign.
CONCLUSIONS The jellyfish sign, proximal Ca, and LDL cholesterol were considered to be important predictors for new DWI lesions after CAS. These 3 factors can be easily determined during a standard clinical visit. Thus, these 3 variables-especially the jellyfish sign and proximal Ca-may be useful for reducing the ischemic stroke risk in patients with stenosis of the cervical carotid artery. Different learning curves between stent retrieval and a direct aspiration first-pass technique for acute ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS In this initial experience, a higher recanalization rate and shorter procedure time were achieved with SR than with ADAPT. A high recanalization rate with SR was possible with relatively less clinical experience, whereas procedure time dramatically decreased with experience. These observed effects on the learning curve might be useful when choosing the method for initial endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke at relatively small stroke centers. Automated prediction of final infarct volume in patients with large-vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: In a cohort of patients with LVO AIS in whom reperfusion was achieved, determinations of infarct core at presentation by NCHCT-ASPECTS and a machine learning model analyzing CTA source images were equivalent to CTP in predicting FIV. These findings have suggested that the information to accurately predict infarct core in patients with LVO AIS was present in conventional imaging modalities (NCHCT and CTA) and accessible by machine learning methods.PMID:34198252 | DOI:10.3171/2021.4.FOCUS21134
