Five Year Outcomes from the US Pivotal Trial of Valiant Captivia Stent Graft for Blunt Aortic Injury
ConclusionsThis multicenter clinical trial describes excellent 5-year outcomes and durable exclusion of blunt thoracic aortic injury using a novel stent graft system. TEVAR with this endograft appears to be a safe and effective treatment option for patients with BTAI.

Optimising Aortic Endovascular Repair in Patients with Marfan Syndrome.
CONCLUSION: The specific protocol described in this study seems to optimise the results of endovascular aortic repair in MFS patients with significant aortic remodelling. PMID: 31865029 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Outcomes of Repair of Kommerell Diverticulum
ConclusionsOpen and endovascular approaches have a high success rate and low mortality risk. Selection of the specific type of intervention should be based on patient anatomy, additional needed procedures, and comorbid conditions.

Debranching-first and proximal arch replacement for an innominate artery aneurysm: a case study.
We describe the debranching-first technique and proximal arch replacement for a huge innominate artery aneurysm and discuss the surgical strategy for cannulation, perfusion and organ protection. PMID: 31203765 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Outcome After Endovascular Repair of Ruptured Descending Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm: A National Multicentre Study.
CONCLUSIONS: This nationwide multicentre study of patients with rDTAA undergoing TEVAR showed acceptable short- but poor long-term survival. Adequate proximal and distal aortic sealing zones are important for technical success. High risk patients and post-operative complications need to be further addressed in an effort to improve outcome. PMID: 30910493 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Endovascular reconstruction of extracranial traumatic internal carotid artery dissections: a systematic review
AbstractExtracranial internal carotid artery dissection (ICAD) is a potential source of morbidity and mortality in trauma patients and requires high degree of suspicion for diagnosis after the initial presentation. Occasionally, if standard therapy is contraindicated, endovascular reconstruction is a treatment option. The aim of this systematic review was to report clinical and radiographic outcomes following endovascular repair of ICAD of traumatic and iatrogenic etiology. A comprehensive systematic review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines...

Medtronic touts study data for thoracic aortic stent
Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) said that its thoracic stent graft for the treatment of a potentially deadly blunt-force chest injury performed well five years after implantation, according to a new study. The Rescue study of the long-term durability, safety, and efficacy of the Medtronic’s Valiant Captivia thoracic stent graft system for blunt thoracic aortic injury (BTAI) was presented at The Society of Thoracic Surgeons annual meeting in San Diego this week. It was the first five-year, industry-issued dataset ever reported for patients with aortic transections undergoing thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). BTAI is...

Endovascular Versus Open Repair For Chronic Type B Dissection Treatment: A meta-analysis
ConclusionsThis recent non -randomised data shows early ER benefit, unsustained at mid-term. Reintervention is higher after ER, necessitating improved technique. However, OS is exempt neither from reintervention nor rupture. Both techniques have their place, but patient selection is key.

Emergency Use of Branched Thoracic Endovascular Repair in the Treatment of Aortic Arch Pathologies
Conclusions: Our experience provided an early insight to the feasibility and safety of b-TEVAR in emergency situation, although the early reintervention rate was not negligible. The endograft was versatile with potential off-the-shelf use in future.

Gore Wins 3 Nods for Molding and Occlusion Balloon
W.L. Gore & Associates has won approvals and clearances from a wide variety of regulatory bodies for its Molding and Occlusion Balloon. The technology has received FDA clearance; a CE mark; and approval from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare. The Flagstaff, AZ-based company’s device is a compliant polyurethane balloon catheter. The Molding and Occlusion Balloon was designed in close collaboration with clinicians to assist in the expansion of self-expanding stent grafts or to temporarily occlude large-diameter vessels. Gore said the new device meets all endovascular aortic repair (EV...

Acute ischemic dissection of an “S”-shaped carotid artery: The “one-stop” value of using a detachable Solitaire AB stent
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of endovascular repair using detachable Solitaire AB stents for acute ischemic dissection of “S”-shaped carotid arteries. From May 2015 to December 2016, a total of 127 patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) underwent endovascular treatment in our center. Among them, five AISs were due to acute dissection of an “S”-shaped carotid artery. Coexisting carotid embolism was identified in all five patients, who first underwent successful Solitaire AB stent-based retrieval of the embolism. All patients then underwent Solitaire AB stenting to reopen the occluded carot...
