Prognostic value of preoperative electrocardiography in predicting myocardial injury after vascular surgery
CONCLUSION: This study confirmed that preoperative ECG abnormalities are frequent in patients undergoing high-risk vascular surgery. However, we did not find evidence supporting relation between preoperative ECG abnormalities and postoperative adverse cardiac outcomes in high risk patients.PMID:35344585 | DOI:10.33963/KP.a2022.0085

Association of Echocardiographic Measures of Left Atrial Function and Size With Incident Dementia
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this exploratory analysis of a US community-based cohort, several echocardiographic measures of lower LA function were significantly associated with an increased risk of subsequent dementia. Measures of LA size were not significantly associated with dementia risk. These findings suggest that impaired LA function may be a risk factor associated with dementia.PMID:35315884 | DOI:10.1001/jama.2022.2518

Coronary artery calcifications and 6-month mortality in patients with COVID-19 without known atheromatous disease
CONCLUSIONS: Non-electrocardiogram-gated computed tomography during the initial pulmonary assessment of patients with COVID-19 without atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease showed a high prevalence of mild, moderate and heavy CAC. CAC score was related to 6-month mortality, independent of conventional cardiovascular risk factors. These results highlight the importance of CAC scoring for patients hospitalized with COVID-19, and calls for attention to patients with high CAC.PMID:35305915 | DOI:10.1016/j.acvd.2022.02.007

Prevalence, clinical profile, and stroke risk of atrial fibrillation in rural Andhra Pradesh, India (the ap-af study)
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of AF is lower in this study compared to studies from the developed countries. Non-rheumatic cardiovascular risk factors were the causes for AF. Non-adherence to stroke prophylaxis is a major threat that needs to be addressed.PMID:35257736 | DOI:10.1016/j.ihj.2022.02.002

Longitudinal Observational Study of Cardiac Outcome Risk Factor Prediction in Children, Adolescents, and Adults with Barth Syndrome
AbstractBarth Syndrome (BTHS) is an X-linked mitochondrial cardioskeletal myopathy caused by defects inTAFAZZIN, a gene responsible for cardiolipin remodeling. Altered mitochondrial levels of cardiolipin lead to cardiomyopathy (CM), muscle weakness, exercise intolerance, and mortality. Cardiac risk factors predicting outcome are unknown. Therefore, we conducted a longitudinal observational study to determine risk factors for outcome in BTHS. Subjects with minimum two evaluations (or one followed by death or transplant) were included. Cardiac size, function, and QTc data were measured by echocardiography and electrocardiogr...
