Metformin-inclusive Therapy Reduces the Risk of Stroke in Patients with Diabetes: A 4-Year Follow-up Study
Metformin is a kind of oral hypoglycemic agents commonly prescribed to patients with diabetes mellitus. Although past studies had proven its protective effect on cardiovascular risk and related mortality, the evidence of metformin on stroke prevention was still insufficient and conflicting. Impact of Increased Early Statin Administration on Ischemic Stroke Outcomes: A Multicenter Electronic Medical Record Intervention Stroke
Conclusions A simple EMR change increased early statin administration in ischemic stroke and was associated with improved clinical outcomes. This is, to our knowledge, the first EMR intervention study to show that a modification of an electronic order set resulted in improved clinical outcomes.

Differences in lipid profiles in two Hispanic ischemic stroke populations
ConclusionWe found significant differences in lipid fractions in Hispanic ischemic stroke patients, with lower total cholesterol and low‐density lipoprotein, and higher triglyceride levels in Mexicans. These findings highlight the heterogeneity of dyslipidemia among the Hispanic race‐ethnic group and may lead to different secondary prevention strategies.

Safety of Statin Pretreatment in Intravenous Thrombolysis for Acute Ischemic Stroke Brief Reports
Conclusions— Statin pretreatment seems not to be associated with adverse outcomes in AIS patients treated with IVT. The effect of statin pretreatment on early functional outcomes in thrombolysed AIS patients deserves further investigation.

Higher On-admission Serum Triglycerides Predict Less Severe Disability and Lower All-cause Mortality after Acute Ischemic Stroke

Long-term Adherence to National Guidelines for Secondary Prevention of Ischemic Stroke: A Prospective Cohort Study in a Public Hospital in Chile
Conclusions: The observed significant decrease in adherence to oral anticoagulation in patients with cardioembolic stroke suggests a need for the implementation of specific strategies to achieve the desired secondary prevention goals in these patients. Future research into the evaluation of other factors that could be associated with the lack of adherence to these guidelines, measurements of therapeutic goals, and new therapeutic strategies that are easier to use and that are associated with less risk could improve the prognosis of these patients.

Acute stroke chameleons in a university hospital: Risk factors, circumstances, and outcomes
Conclusions: AIS are missed in patients with younger age with a lower cerebrovascular risk profile and may be masked by other acute conditions. Patients with chameleons present more often with milder strokes or coma, fewer focal signs and cerebellar strokes, and have higher disability and mortality rates at 12 months. These findings may be used to raise awareness in emergency departments to recognize and treat such patients appropriately.
