Clinical Characteristics of Pediatric Patients with Congenital Erythrocytosis: A Single-Center Study
AbstractAlthough congenital erythrocytosis (CE), an inherited disorder, impairs pediatric quality of life, physicians often overlook high hemoglobin (Hgb) levels and its symptoms due to lack of knowledge of age-adjusted pediatric Hgb levels and CE ’s rarity. In a retrospective, single-center study, data from hospital records of pediatric patients diagnosed with CE were evaluated. Twenty-six patients from 25 families (80.8% male) had been diagnosed with CE in 20 years, at a mean age of 14.9 ± 2.8 years (8.3–17.8) and with a mean Hgb level of 17.36 ± 1.44 g/dL (14.63–22.1). Alloimmunization in Egyptian Children with Sickle Cell Disease
ConclusionThe distribution of the blood group antigens in patients with SCD has important clinical significance especially those who often require regular blood transfusion and who may have developed multiple antibodies. The resultant alloimmunization is serious necessitates early recognition and management.

Ministernotomy for Aortic Valve Replacement Versus Conventional Sternotomy, a Choice for a Better outcome
Conclusion Ministernotomy Aortic valve replacement was found to be a safe procedure compared to full sternotomy approach. Patients who had their surgery through the mini approach had less amount of blood loss, blood transfusion requirements, ventilation time which all led to less duration of ICU and hos pital stay, resulting in a better outcome for the .patients

Robotic hybrid coronary revascularization versus conventional off ‐pump coronary bypass surgery in women with two‐vessel disease
ConclusionsRobotic HCR provides for women with two-vessel CAD a shorter postoperative recovery with fewer blood transfusions, with similar long-term outcomes when compared with conventional OPCAB via sternotomy.

Morbidity and mortality in patients managed with high compared with low blood pressure targets during on-pump cardiac surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionIndividual trial definitions of high and low blood pressure targets varied, limiting inferences. The effect of high (compared with low) blood pressure targets on other morbidity and mortality after cardiac surgery remains unclear because of limitations with the body of existing evidence. Comparison of Extramedullary and Intramedullary Implants for Stable Intertrochanteric Fractures: Have We Swung the Pendulum Too Far the Other Way?
DISCUSSION: Our study found that extramedullary implants were associated with lower transfusions rates, lower readmissions, and better patient disposition. We recommend surgeons to consider extramedullary implants when treating stable IT fractures, especially if the patient is anemic or at high risk for hospital readmission.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level III. Venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation experience in a community level I trauma center
CONCLUSIONS: Community level I trauma centers are capable of handling trauma patients requiring ECMO. It does require a multi-disciplinary team of surgical intensivists and cardiothoracic surgeons along with the support of nursing, respiratory therapists, and perfusionists. No Difference in Blood Loss and Risk of Transfusion Between Patients Treated with One or Two Doses of Intravenous Tranexamic Acid After Simultaneous Bilateral TKA
CONCLUSION: The findings of this study suggest that a single dose of intravenous TXA may be adequate to control excessive blood loss and reduce blood transfusion in simultaneous bilateral TKA. Despite its short half-life, TXA still appears to be effective in this demanding procedure without requiring prolonged plasma concentrations obtained from multiple doses.
