Formulary restrictions and stroke risk in  patients with atrial fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: Limiting access to NOACs may exacerbate current underuse of anticoagulants and increase the risk of stroke among patients with newly diagnosed AF. Pharmacy benefit managers and Part D plans need to continuously review the appropriateness of formulary policies to ensure patient access to effective medications.PMID:36252171 | DOI:10.37765/ajmc.2022.89195

Effects of a Pharmacist-Led Educational Interventional Program on Electronic Monitoring-Assessed Adherence to Direct Oral Anticoagulants: A Randomized, Controlled Trial in Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation
In this study, the selection of DOACs was not randomized, and the lack of assessment of the association between adherence to DOACs and clinical outcomes was a limitation. Associations Between Drug Treatments and the Risk of Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
AbstractThere is increasing interest in drug therapy for preventing aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). We aimed to comprehensively evaluate the association between drug use and the risk of aSAH. We searched PubMed and Scopus from the databases ’ inception until December 2021. Observational studies reporting the association between any drug therapy and aSAH were included. The odds ratios (ORs) for each drug used in aSAH were meta-analyzed with a random-effect model. According to the systematic review, 25 observational studies were eligib le for the present study. Four therapeutic purpose-based classes (e.g., lipid...

Risk of Stroke and Major Bleeding with Vitamin-K Antagonist Use after Mitral Valve Repair
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that VKA after MVr does not reduce risk of cerebral embolic events but is associated with increased risk of major bleeding events.PMID:36223805 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.09.038

Validation of Biomarker-Based ABCD Score in Atrial Fibrillation Patients with a Non-Gender CHA < sub > 2 < /sub > DS < sub > 2 < /sub > -VASc Score 0-1: A Korean Multi-Center Cohort
CONCLUSION: The biomarker-based ABCD score demonstrated improved stroke risk stratification in AF patients with non-gender CHA2DS2-VASc score 0-1. Furthermore, NOAC with an ABCD score ≥1 was associated with significantly lower stroke rate in AF patients with non-gender CHA2DS2-VASc score 0-1.PMID:36168241 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2022.0157
