A Statewide Nurse Residency Program Evaluation
J Contin Educ Nurs. 2023 Sep;54(9):421-429. doi: 10.3928/00220124-20230816-25. Epub 2023 Sep 1.ABSTRACTAcross the nation, hospitals are answering the call to action for funding and requiring new-to-practice registered nurses to complete a nurse residency program (NRP). In response, all Maryland acute care hospitals successfully funded, adopted, and implemented a 12-month standardized, commercially available (vendored) NRP. However, although the hospitals use the same curriculum, their administrative practices, content, and deliverables vary. A statewide program evaluation was conducted by the Maryland Organization of Nurse...

Neuroinflammation and the immune system in hypoxic ischaemic brain injury pathophysiology after cardiac arrest
J Physiol. 2023 Aug 28. doi: 10.1113/JP284588. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHypoxic ischaemic brain injury after resuscitation from cardiac arrest is associated with dismal clinical outcomes. To date, most clinical interventions have been geared towards the restoration of cerebral oxygen delivery after resuscitation; however, outcomes in clinical trials are disappointing. Therefore, alternative disease mechanism(s) are likely to be at play, of which the response of the innate immune system to sterile injured tissue in vivo after reperfusion has garnered significant interest. The innate immune system is composed of three p...

National dengue surveillance, Cambodia 2002-2020
We report that while dengue case morbidity and mortality rates in Cambodia fell between 2002 and 2020, dengue incidence doubled and age at infection increased. Future national surveillance, disease prevention and treatment, and vector control policies will have to account for these changes to optimize disease control.PMID:37638355 | PMC:PMC10452936 | DOI:10.2471/BLT.23.289713

Enhancing men's awareness of testicular diseases (E-MAT) feasibility trial: Protocol for a mixed method process evaluation
Conclusions: This process evaluation will provide an in-depth understanding of how the interventions worked within this cohort and lessons for a future definitive trial.PMID:37636246 | PMC:PMC10450256 | DOI:10.12688/hrbopenres.13515.1

Lessons in aging from Myc knockout mouse models
Front Cell Dev Biol. 2023 Aug 9;11:1244321. doi: 10.3389/fcell.2023.1244321. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTDespite MYC being among the most intensively studied oncogenes, its role in normal development has not been determined as Myc-/- mice do not survival beyond mid-gestation. Myc ± mice live longer than their wild-type counterparts and are slower to accumulate many age-related phenotypes. However, Myc haplo-insufficiency likely conceals other important phenotypes as many high-affinity Myc targets genes continue to be regulated normally. By delaying Myc inactivation until after birth it has recently been possible to study the...

What are the evidence bases for developing models of rehabilitation for older people with mental illness in Australia?
CONCLUSIONS: There is sufficient evidence to guide development of models of rehabilitation with older people, but innovation and evaluation are essential if older people are to have equal opportunities in their recovery journeys.PMID:37615592 | DOI:10.1177/10398562231190831
