She never imagined she would have to leave the comfort of her home in rural eastern Oregon just weeks before her due date. But following the abrupt closure in August of the only maternity ward within 40 miles, she decided to stay at her brother ’s house near Boise, Idaho — a two-hour drive through a mountain pass — to be closer to a hospital. . . .A growing number of rural hospitals have been shutt...

Teaching Clinical Reasoning in  the Preclinical Period
CONCLUSION: Our Introduction to Clinical Reasoning course offers students repeated exposure to well-selected cases to promote their development of clinical reasoning. The course is an example of how clinical reasoning can be taught across the preclinical curriculum without extensive faculty training in medical education or clinical reasoning theory. The course can be adapted into different instructional formats to cover a variety of topics to provide the early learner with sequential exposure and practice in diagnostic reasoning.PMID:37738179 | DOI:10.1093/milmed/usad370

Incidence of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Paris area (France) and in the Netherlands
ConclusionsIncidence of INS before and during the Covid-19 pandemic was not different, but when schools were closed during lockdown, incidence was significantly lower. Interestingly, incidences of other respiratory viral infections were also reduced as was air pollution. Together, these results argue for a link between INS onset and viral infections and/or environmental factors.Graphical abstractA higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available asSupplementary information

Geographic Disparity in Distance to Trauma Care in Secondary Schools across the United States
CONCLUSION: This study highlights geographic disparity in distance to trauma care for SSs in the United States. SSs located > 60 miles from trauma centers were at reduced odds of access to AT services. Identification of geographic trends of AT services relative to the location of tertiary trauma centers is a critical first step to prevent fatal consequences of catastrophic injuries.PMID:37734731 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-0149.23
