Empowering Active-Duty Service Members to Initiate the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine
Clin J Oncol Nurs. 2022 Apr 1;26(2):228-231. doi: 10.1188/22.CJON.228-231.ABSTRACTHuman papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection that can lead to cervical, anal, oropharyngeal, penile, vulvar, and vaginal cancers. Active-duty service members are disproportionately affected by HPV, yet this population has very low HPV vaccination rates. Increasing these rates has the potential to prevent HPV-associated cancers. This case study describes a brief and focused educational intervention designed to improve HPV vaccination rates among active-duty service members.PMID:35302545 | DOI:10.1188/22.CJON.228-231

What to Know About a Fourth COVID-19 Vaccine Dose
Most people ages 12 and older are considered “up to date” with their COVID-19 vaccines if they received either three doses of the mRNA shots from Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna, or two doses of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine. But some public health experts say another dose might be needed in the coming months. The Washington Post reports today that Pfizer and BioNTech soon plan to request authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a fourth dose of their vaccine in people ages 65 and older. In the past few days, Albert Bourla, Pfizer’s CEO, has said that he believes every...

Tumor draining lymph nodes, immune response, and radiotherapy: Towards a revisal of therapeutic principles
Biochim Biophys Acta Rev Cancer. 2022 Feb 25:188704. doi: 10.1016/j.bbcan.2022.188704. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe tumor-draining lymph nodes (TDLNs) are the primary sites of the development of anti-tumor immunity. Primary tumor irradiation promotes 'radio-vaccination' by enhancing the release of tumor antigens and activating the interferon type-I pathway. Activated intratumoral dendritic cells (DCs) enter the lymphatics to reach the TDLNs. The adaptive anti-tumor immune responses are developed, as DCs will present tumor-related antigens to activate CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells. Strong experimental evidence suggests that po...

Temporal Changes in Incidence Rates of the Most Common Gynecological Cancers in the Female Population in Central Serbia
Conclusion: Based on our presented results, a significant increase of incidence trend for the most common gynecological cancers in the Serbian female population from 2012 to 2018 was determined. There has been a significant increase in the incidence of uterine cancer from 2014 up to 2018, as well as for ovarian cancer from 2012 up to 2018, while cervical cancer showed a non-significant decrease of incidence trend from 2003 until 2015 and then a non-significant increase. Impact of web-based health education on HPV vaccination uptake among college girl students in Western and Northern China: a follow-up study
CONCLUSION: Female college students' HPV vaccination uptake is insufficient, and they have minimal detailed knowledge about HPV and its vaccines. Web-based health education on HPV vaccines is an easy, feasible, and effective way to improve the awareness and acceptance of HPV vaccination among female college students, but it has limited effect on HPV vaccination uptake.PMID:35197068 | DOI:10.1186/s12905-022-01625-0

Mapping sociodemographic and geographical differences in human papillomavirus non-vaccination among young girls in Sweden
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings underscore the importance of universal yet tailored approaches, including providing adequate information about HPV vaccination in Swedish and other languages, and of health-care professionals displaying sensitivity to patients' and parents' questions or needs.PMID:35120427 | DOI:10.1177/14034948221075410
