Cognitive impairment, anxiety and depression: a map of Cochrane evidence relevant to rehabilitation for people with post COVID-19 condition
CONCLUSIONS: These results are the first step of indirect evidence able to generate helpful hypotheses for clinical practice and future research. They served as the basis for the three recommendations on treatments for these PCC symptoms published in the current WHO Guidelines for clinical practice.PMID:36534008 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.22.07813-3

Fostering Interprofessional Learning in a Rehabilitation Setting: Development of an Interprofessional Clinical Learning Unit.
CONCLUSIONS: The development of the IP clinical learning unit was successful and rewarding, but not without its challenges. Formal IP education was necessary to enhance collaborative practice, even in a multidisciplinary environment. Commitment and support from all participants, particularly managers and administrators from the healthcare agency, were critical to success. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The focus of this unit was on a stroke rehabilitation unit; however, the development and implementation principles identified may be applicable to any team-based clinical setting. Referrer and service provider beliefs and attitudes towards rehabilitation in the home; factors related to utilisation of Early Supported Discharge.
Conclusions: This study provides evidence that there was a level of uncertainty amongst referrers and RITH service providers regarding issues directly and indirectly related to patient eligibility and RITH service capability. This uncertainty needs to be explored in future research. Implications for Rehabilitation Differences in views held by referrers and ESD service providers were identified in this study that could lead to inconsistencies in patient selection for, and under-utilization of, ESD services. Improved communication between referrers and ESD service providers, for instance attendance of RITH staff at inpatient...

Prognostic factors of return to work after traumatic or non-traumatic acquired brain injury.
CONCLUSIONS: This study confirms earlier findings that after both traumatic and non-traumatic ABI injury related factors in the Emergency Department are not associated with RTW. In addition, it provides further evidence that personal factors after traumatic ABI and activity-related factors after non-traumatic ABI are strongly associated with RTW. Implications for Rehabilitation We found strong evidence for a significant association between RTW and personal factors (education level, unemployment) after traumatic ABI, and activities of daily living (ADL) after non-traumatic ABI. We advise to focus on work-related activities ...

'I do the best I can': an in-depth exploration of the aphasia management pathway in the acute hospital setting.
CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest significant diversity in the pathways of care for people with aphasia and their families in the acute hospital setting. Additional support mechanisms are required in order to support speech pathologists to minimise the evidence-practice gap. Implications for Rehabilitation Significant diversity exists in the current aphasia management pathway for people with acute post-stroke aphasia and their families in the acute hospital setting. Mechanisms that support speech pathologists to minimise the evidence-practice gap, and consequently reduce their sense of professional dissonance, are required. ...

Predictive indices for functional improvement and deterioration, institutionalization, and death among elderly Medicare beneficiaries
Conclusion Predictive indices, or point and scoring systems used to predict outcomes, can identify elderly Medicare beneficiaries at risk of functional deterioration, institutionalization, and death and can aid policy makers, clinicians, and family members in improving care for older adults and supporting successful aging in the community.

Effectiveness of the conductive educational approach added to conventional physiotherapy in the improvement of gait parameters of poststroke patients: randomized-controlled pilot study
Our objective was to assess the benefits of the conductive education (CE) approach added to conventional physiotherapy in gait functions of poststroke, hemiparetic patients. A randomized-controlled trial was designed in a rehabilitation clinic. Late and chronic poststroke patients with gait disturbances (n=17, median age: 55 years, range: 41–72 years) were enrolled in the study. All patients received conventional physiotherapy. However, patients of only one group took part in therapy on the basis of the CE approach. The gait parameters, semiobjective outcome measures, functional independence measure, and International Cl...

The Bobath concept - a model to illustrate clinical practice.
This article describes the clinical application of the Bobath concept in terms of the integration of posture and movement with respect to the quality of task performance, applying the Model of Bobath Clinical Practice. Facilitation, a key aspect of Bobath clinical practice, was utilised to positively affect motor control and perception in two clients with impairment-related movement problems due to neurological pathology and associated activity limitations and participation restrictions - the outcome measures used to reflect the individual clinical presentation. Implications for Rehabilitation The model of Bobath clinical ...

The clinical utility and construct validity of the NIH Toolbox Cognition Battery (NIHTB-CB) in individuals with disabilities.
A State-of-the-Science conference on measurement with disability populations recommended “...the development of cognitive and psychosocial outcome measures, using computer-adaptive testing...that are low in respondent burden and valid across patient populations,” (Clohan et al., 2007, p. 1537). Following this recommendation, the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) prioritized the development of measures of cognitive functioning for individuals with disabilities, noting that measures of cognitive functioning “have not been developed for systemic application in th...
