Common changes in rat cortical gene expression after valproate or lithium treatment particularly affect pre- and post-synaptic pathways that regulate four neurotransmitters systems
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that treating with mood stabilisers cause many common changes in levels of RNA which will impact on CNS function, particularly affecting post-synaptic muscarinic receptor functioning and the release of multiple neurotransmitters.PMID:37722808 | DOI:10.1080/15622975.2023.2258972

Preliminary results from the Australian Genetics of Bipolar Disorder Study: A nation-wide cohort
CONCLUSION: Our findings highlight the high rate of comorbidities and adverse drug reactions among adults living with bipolar disorder in the general Australian population. Future genomic analyses focus on identifying genetic variants influencing pharmacotherapy treatment response and side effects.PMID:37655588 | DOI:10.1177/00048674231195571

Ten-Year Trends in Lithium Prescribing in Alberta, Canada
CONCLUSIONS: Rather than a general decline in prescribing, trends in lithium use are dependent on age and sex. Further, the period soon after lithium initiation appears to be a key time period in which many lithium trials are abandoned. Detailed studies using primary data collection are needed to confirm and further explore these findings. These population-based results not only confirm a decline in lithium use, but also suggest that this may have stopped or even reversed. Population-based data on discontinuation pinpoint the period soon after initiation as the time when trials are most often discontinued.PMID:37226424 | D...
