The benefit of metformin in the treatment of pediatric non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Conclusion: According to the data of this meta-analysis, treatment with metformin failed to statistically improve liver enzymes but may be beneficial in the improvement of lipid parameters and insulin metabolism regulation in pediatric patients with NAFLD. As there are not enough available studies in the literature, the influence of metformin on liver ultrasonography or histology in pediatric NAFLD should be further analyzed in future studies. What is Known:• Lifestyle modification with weight loss through physical activity and dietary modification is the recommended treatment option for pediatric NAFLD.• Metformin may ...

Impact of fetal growth restriction on pregnancy outcome in women undergoing expectant management for preterm pre-eclampsia
CONCLUSION: FGR is commonly present in women with early preterm preeclampsia being managed expectantly and outcomes are poorer. FGR is associated with a shorter latency, more emergency caesarean deliveries, fewer successful inductions, and increased rates of neonatal morbidity and death. Does treatment modality affect measures of arterial stiffness in women with gestational diabetes?
CONCLUSIONS: Pregnancies complicated by GDM demonstrate significantly higher AS compared to low-risk pregnancies regardless of treatment modality. Our data provides a basis for further investigation into the association of metformin therapy with changes in AS and risk of placental-mediated diseases. This article is protected by copyright. Interventions to Decrease Carotid-Intima Media Thickness in Children and Adolescents With Type 1 Diabetes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Some pharmacological interventions may decrease CIMT in children with type 1 diabetes. However, there is great uncertainty with respect to their effects and no strong conclusions can be drawn. Further evidence from larger RCTs is required.SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION: PROSPERO, CRD42017075169.PMID:36992735 | PMC:PMC10012108 | DOI:10.3389/fcdhc.2022.882504

Salvianolic acid A improve mitochondrial respiration and cardiac function via inhibiting apoptosis pathway through CRYAB in diabetic cardiomyopathy
This study aims to elucidate whether SAA had any cardiovascular protection on the pathophysiology of DCM and explored the potential mechanisms. Diabetes was induced in rats by 30 mg/kg of streptozotocin (STZ) treatment. After a week of stability, 5 mg/kg isoprenaline (ISO) was injected into the rats subcutaneously. 3 mg/kg SAA was orally administered for six weeks and 150 mg/kg Metformin was selected as a positive group. At the end of this period, cardiac function was assessed by ultrasound, electrocardiogram, and relevant cardiac injury biomarkers testing. Treatment with SAA improved cardiac function, glucose, and lipid l...
