Dissemination and Implementation of a Community Health Worker Intervention for Disparities in Palliative Care (DeCIDE PC): a study protocol for a hybrid type 1 randomized controlled trial
DISCUSSION: We expect the DeCIDE PC intervention to improve integration of palliative care, reduce multilevel barriers to care, enhance clinic and patient linkage to resources, and ultimately improve palliative care outcomes for African American patients with advanced cancer. If found to be effective, the DeCIDE PC intervention may be a transformative model with the potential to guide large-scale adoption of promising strategies to improve palliative care use and decrease disparities in end-of-life care for African American patients with advanced cancer in the United States.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Registered on ClinicalTrials....

The spiritual dimension of parenting a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition: A mixed-methods systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Although studies vary in defining spirituality, reports on spirituality focus on how parents connect to their faith, others, and themselves as parents. Healthcare professionals can support parents by paying attention to the spiritual process parents are going through. More research is needed into how healthcare professionals can support parents of seriously ill children in this process.PMID:37461310 | DOI:10.1177/02692163231186173

Options for Dialysis and Vascular Access Creation
Surg Clin North Am. 2023 Aug;103(4):673-684. doi: 10.1016/j.suc.2023.05.006. Epub 2023 Jun 1.ABSTRACTEnd-stage kidney disease (ESKD) affects nearly 800,000 patients in the United States. The choice of peritoneal dialysis (PD) versus hemodialysis (HD) should be patient centric. An ESKD Life-Plan is crucial with the goal of creating the right access, for the right patient, at the right time, for the right reason. Complex access should be considered when straightforward access options have been exhausted. Evolving techniques such as percutaneous access for HD and PD should be further investigated. Shared decision-making and p...
